HEALING ARTS All Hypnosis is Self-Hypnosis By John Henderson, DD, CI

There are many people during these unusual economic times that know they need Hypnotherapy and want it, but it just seems out of their reach financially. So this month you are going to get your free self hypnosis class.

There are several differences between hypnotherapy and self hypnosis; the most obvious is that in self hypnosis there is no hypnotherapist. This changes things for sev- eral reasons. First, there is no one to give you your scripts and affirmations, so you have to read them your self. To do this, you obviously have to open your eyes, focus on the written script and affirmations and either read them out loud or to your self. You don’t loose everything; you are just not as deep in hypnosis. You can fumble around getting hold of the papers and getting your eyes focused on the writing and disconnect. The hypnotherapist has worked with scripts and affirmations and honed them to the point that he or she knows what is best to adapt them to your situation. The hypnotherapist works with you to get you into the deepest hypnotic trance without allow- ing you to go to sleep. If, during the affirmations, you do go deeper and go to sleep, he or she can bring you back into a level so that you can hear the affirmations so they register in your conscious mind also. If you think that it does not matter if you hear them or not, many experts are on your side. After all we do have subliminals that are obviously not heard by the conscious mind. However, with self hypnosis, if you are asleep, there is no one to repeat the script or affirmations.

One way to overcome this problem is to have a CD that has affirmations on them, either audible or subliminal. There are CDs that are specifically for self hypnosis that will get you into an altered state, give you the script and then the affirmations. At this point, some of the terms and a logical order may be missing in your mind, so I am going to give you your complete order with all terms defined.

Before you begin your process, be sure that you have some quiet time all to yourself. Turn off the phones, put a “do not disturb” note on the door. Put pets in a part of the house where they won’t disturb you. Make sure that the children are either occupied or away. If you live in a very noisy area, you might decide to wear earphones with your CD player. If you are using a self hypnosis CD, then that’s perfect. If you choose to read your own sceipts, then put some soft music or nature sounds on the player. Remember - no songs with words or any sounds thay will distract or annoy you. I have a white noise machine that I often use when there is a lot of noise around.

First you need to decide what part of your life you want to work on. Once you have made that determination, you can write down your script. Your script is your story that you are going to read to your subconscious mind.

An example for weight reduction would be to see your- self walking down stairs that have a mirror on the wall in front of you so that with each step you go down, you see your self getting slimmer with each step … “stepping down, getting slimmer, stepping down again, getting slimmer” and continue down twenty stairs seeing your- self getting slimmer with each step. Then you are ready to read your affirmations. An example of weight reduc- tion affirmations would be “I only eat healthy foods, I avoid fried foods and all dairy products, more and more each day I am becoming slimmer and slimmer” and con- tinue until you have read all your affirmations. Once you have read your script and your affirmations, you need to come fully back to reality unless you are in bed and ready to go to sleep. To come fully back out of hypnosis, you only need to say out loud “ number one, I’m coming out of hypnosis, number two I am getting the complete feeling back in my body and number three, I am opening my eyes, number four I’m back in the third dimension and completely functional, number five, I’m wide awake. Now that you know what you are going to do in hypnosis, you can go there by closing your eyes and relaxing your body one part at the time. This is the induction. Now fol- low the steps above and you have done it. A professional hypnotherapy session should get you a complete set of instructions in self-hypnosis and a script with affirma- tions for what you wish to change in your life.

This is the way your subconscious mind works: The scripts and affirmations or suggestions you focus on, if repeated frequently, become your subconscious beliefs; your subconscious mind beliefs determine your feel- ings; your feelings determine your attitude; your attitude controls your behavior and your behavior determines your success or failure in changing your life. It’s time you changed your life, so what are you waiting for? Do it NOW, for your self!
