qualities. I was hesitating, however, unsure of whether or not I could use the metal shop. It turned out I could, but only with limited tools. Indeed a bit frustrating, but I believe I was one of the first students interested in using these materials. And despite the limitations I still managed to finish the project.

During the summer I had hoped to experiment with stone and metal as mediums since there is so little time during the academic year to accomplish everything, however, the second semester 3D class I had registered for was canceled, so my plan to further my skills has been delayed. (Again I really wanted access to the shop, but since I am not taking any classes, policy dictates restricted access to shop facilities due to liability issues). As frustrating as this has been I have no intention of letting this restrict my experimenting with certain mediums, and creating art. During the winter term I had made great contacts through projects by either finding materials or from learning how to make a project work. One of these connections is Jock Hildebrand who has offered me the opportunity to work at his studio (heading that way tomorrow, by bus and bike) to use his tools to experiment with harder stones such as granite and marble. It is because of people like Jock that I will be able to continue working on projects that challenge my skills, and learn from truly skilled sculptors who listen to my stories, understand my situation, and are doing something to help me. For that I am truly grateful.

Despite the hurdles of being a Fine Arts Student, the best part about being a student is to learn, often the hard way. But through my struggles my passion for creating has never wavered, it’s only made me dig and persevere to get what I want. Also I am on the hunt for a used truck!
