You may think your skin will be at its driest in the summer – wrong. Winter is a brutal time of year for your skin’s hydration levels. First we wrap up like Shackleton allowing no circulating air to get near the body, then we blast the heater in the car and finally we flip that heating switch the second we walk in the door from work. Oh and we eat less food with high water levels such as salads and fruits and go for the rib sticking, waist increasing starches and dense portions of meat.


WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR SKIN’S MOISTURE CONTENT INCLUDE avoiding caffeine, alcohol and smoking as all three act as diuretics, sucking all the water out of your body. Increase the amount of water you drink. You may not feel thirsty as you do in the summer but you are still going to need those ‘government directed’ 8 glasses to keep your insides ticking over. If you have time for a bath, soak in the water for five minutes then add a glug of any oil you have to hand into the bath. The five minutes allow your skin to absorb some of the water and the

CHOCOLATE HONEY SCRUB Try making this yummy chocolate honey scrub to add moisture and see off those flaking cells that have been trapped next to your skin under your vest/ sweater combo. YOU WILL NEED: 8 tablespoons of honey • 2 tablespoons of any oil • 8 tablespoons of salt • 6 tablespoons of grated unsweetened chocolate. Mix it all up til its thick and grainy then swirl all over the body in big circular motions, increasing your circulation and polishing the surface while adding moisture.


Honey is a humectant which means it attracts and retains moisture from the air around you and it is anti-irritating so good for those with sensitive skins.
