The community magazine for Dartmouth and local villages

The Best Read local publication by far Dear Reader

Phew... a big issue of By The Dart hits the streets once again. 144 pages packed full of useful local information, fascinating history and interesting interviews with local personalities. Lots of local advertisers to encourage you to buy locally and support a thriving local economy.

Where do we start? - firstly, we’ve interviewed Dartmouth’s newest famous son - TV personality and adventurer Monty Halls who has moved to Dartmouth and opened Great Escapes in the town. There’s Jilly Rowland, well known locally for her farm shop. Nick Shepherd, the author of many a photograph to grace the cover of By The Dart (including this issue). Heather Robinson tells us about the mystery of skeletons found buried in her garden and Chris Helyer describes the fantastic work he is doing for the deprived children of South Africa.

With the Jubilee celebrations imminent, we outline the Queen’s connections with Dartmouth. We’ve researched the Ecology of The Dart and pondered Dartmouth’s Pre History. And all that is just a taster.

All this probably explains why we are a bit behind with the publication of our planned “Best of By The Dart” publication. If you’re one of those who have pre-paid for this potentially great souvenir of Dartmouth life - fear not. We are hurrying with publication as best we can.

Finally, we’re very close to rolling out our new video website - www.bythedart.

tv. We’ll be filming the Music Festival and uploading high quality highlights onto the site every day during the Festival. Check it out.

Best wishes Mark Simpson, Publisher
