134 TECHNOLOGY / CASE STUDY AN AIR OF AUTHORITY Griven fixtures create a sweeeping twinkle of light across the facade of Kuwait’s Port Authority building.
Almost 800 Griven Graph-i-Spot 12’s have been used to create a new façade scheme for the Port Authority building in Kuwait. The super compact single 3W full-colour LED units can be combined with similar units from the range to build a virtual LED screen on almost any surface. The fixture accepts graphic, video or still image feeds from a DVI media server or DMX 512 signal with the configuration system then storing and triggering the show to create a striking series of visual effects. To complete the exterior scheme, 40 units of Griven’s Powershine S with 10° optics were placed at the base of the two cylindrical side blocks creating a well blended wall wash effect.

SUITE SUCCESS Lamp fixtures help provide a very modern hotel interior for an erstwhile Barcelona palace.
Ohla Hotel, located in Via Laietana, in the old part of Barcelona, is the result of an intense refurbishment project carried out by Balaguer Arquitectos Asociados. Located on the former site of the palace of the first Count of Barcelona, the avant- garde interior design of this boutique hotel contrasts with a French style neoclassical façade decorated with sculpture by the artist Frederic Amat.
The project managed to redistribute the floors of the building, defining 72 rooms and a large suite in the dome; a terrace with panoramic views of the city and a glass swimming pool; and on the ground floor, the Saüc Restaurant, the Gastronomic Bar, and the conference rooms, among other services offered by the hotel. Artec3 were tasked with developing a lighting design for the hotel. For the guest rooms, artec3 chose the FIL Plus luminaire by Lamp, designed to created continuous lines of direct-indirect lighting with no dark zones. Unique to this project, the diffuser on the FIL Plus luminaires were fitted with a fireproof mesh of translucent metallic fabric. This had been used in other areas of the hotel as a decorative element and Artec3 wanted to
include it in the luminaire to give it a more elegant and sophisticated touch. This in turn unified the whole of the Ohla Hotel a single design look. To light the conference rooms, the Lamp’s Multispace direct-indirect suspended luminaire was selected. In some of the
rooms a centralised arrangement of luminaires was chosen, illuminating just the centre of the space. In others, luminaires were located on both sides of the room thus creating a more peripheral lighting scheme.
