A Message from the President
T e Maryland Horse Council is growing. We regularly pull an average of 80 people to our quarterly meetings. We have estab- lished our Political Action Committee. We have created our Maryland Fund For Horses. Our Business Network is going strong. Our Save T e Horse Farms cam- paign is active. Our Legislative Commit- tee is all over Annapolis. Our Committee To Support Racing is involved. Our Trails and Greenways Committee is at work. Our involvement with the MHIB Marketing Committee is sowing seeds for the future.
We have just created a new Farm Stewardship Committee. Go to www.

At our November Executive Committee meeting we discussed propos- als to grow the organization both in membership and in active leader- ship. T ey include: • Two year Board terms rather than one year • A grass roots nomination pro- cess for Board and Executive Committee elections • A paid membership recruiter • Creation of MHC County Chairs and County Pages on our web site T ese proposals and others will be considered for formal action at our January 20 meeting in Timonium during Horse World Expo. Our ad- ministrative staff at Mythic Landing Events has put together member- ship recruitment materials for all of our association members to use at their gatherings. T e Maryland Horse Council has a unique membership structure, which allows it to represent the broadest spectrum of people involved with or interested in horses. Our membership consists of associations, farms, businesses and individuals. T e Association members, e.g., breed enthusiasts, sport and discipline groups, etc. are each entitled to one vote on the Board of Directors. T e other membership categories: Business, Farm, Individual, etc., exercise their voting privileges through elected Directors-at-Large. Each of these categories elects one Director-at- Large for every 25 or fewer business Members, for every 25 or fewer farm Members. T is composition of the Board of Directors balances the voting strength of each of the diverse groups. Here are the results of the most recent election of At-Large Directors:

MHC Business Networking Lunch On Tuesday, November 29, 2011, MHC Business
and Farm members were given an exclusive “behind the scenes” tour of one of the last remaining feed mills in Maryland, Farmer’s Cooperative in Frederick. Tour-goers got to hear the story about how horses saved this vener- able ag-institution from extinction. Afterwards, business and farm members were treated to lunch, again, courtesy of Farmer’s Coop. T e MHC Business Networking lunches, which are
an exclusive benefi t for business and farm members, provide a wonderful peer-to-peer informal environment
