Maryland Will Miss
Lesley Long, longtime Maryland horsewoman, died on December 14 after being severely in- jured while clipping a horse. Long was 68. Long worked for Liz Patrick at Waters Edge Farm in Sykesville for over a decade before starting her own busi- ness, LK Sport Horses, with daughter Kerri. Long was a USEA Level 1 instructor with over 20 years of professional experience as a trainer and coach. Over the years, she had campaigned racehorses, timber horses and foxhunters as well as event horses. Ellen Burnette Bishop Boutelle of Middle- town died on Decem- ber 2 at the age of 92. Boutelle was a land- owner and longtime member of New Mar- ket-Middletown Val- ley Hounds. Boutelle moved to Hagerstown with her fi rst husband Edward S. Bishop Sr. during World War II.

She later married Richard S. Boutelle Sr., who was the president of Fairchild Engine and Air- plane Corp. She had several chil- dren, including local horse show and event rider Dickcy Gibson. T oroughbred racehorse owner
and breeder Albert H. Cohen of Ijamsville died on August 26 at the age of 89. Cohen founded Hickory Plains Farm with his son Randy and bred several champion T or- oughbred horses including stakes winners Moon Catcher, True Sen- sation, Pour It On and Red Velvet
Cake. Hickory Plains Farm stood the 1975 Maryland-bred juvenile champion Cojak until the mid-1990s. Cohen was also the founder of the Frederick Construction Company, Inc. Harold Frank Jones, 81, died on August 25.
He worked for the last 20 years at the King T. Leatherbury barn at Laurel Park. Patricia Rugieri, who worked for trainer
Steve Hings at Pimlico, died on August 10 at the age of 46. Clarence Whye, who was a Pimlico back-
stretch employee for nearly 60 years, died on August 13 at the age of 81. Dr. Allen B. Wisner of Glen Rock, Pennsyl- vania, died on October 27 at the age of 71. Dr. Wisner was born and raised in Baltimore be- fore graduating from the University of Penn- sylvania with a degree in veterinary medicine.
He established the Green Glen Equine Center in Glen Rock in 1968 and operated from there until he retired in 2002.
