MEDICAL BILLING & CODING LAB, Open entry 9/6-4/30/2012 HEALTH SCIENCE AND MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
All classes are held in Crest Room 110 Cerone Learn the skills to become a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist and prepare to earn profes- sional coding credentials. The program consists of a sequence of computerized courses with assigned reading, and writing, video, audio, animations and interactive exercises. Students earn a certificate for successful completion of each class. Basic computer skills required. Prerequisite: successful completion of basic reading comprehension test prior to registration required. Please call for test dates.
Classes are taken in the following sequence:
1. Medical Terminology 060201 T Th
6–9 PM $260
Instruction introduces essential anatomical and physiological terminology. This class is de- signed for the medical coder and biller, and uses case studies and sample patient records. Book fee is included in class fee. Class must be completed within 8 wks.
2. Medical Coding I 060209 T Th
6–9 PM $295
Instruction covers ICD-9-CM and CPT code sets and how they are used in medical insurance billing. Students learn how to assign numbers to medical diagnoses, procedures, and services to optimize payment or physician billing. Book and material fees to be covered in class. (Pre- requisite Medical Terminology) Class must be completed within 16 wks.
3. Medical Insurance Billing 060210 T Th
6–9 PM $295
Instruction covers physician office billing, outpatient billing, CMS 1500 & UB04 claim forms, private insurance, managed care, Medicare, HMO, Medi-cal, Tricare, receiving payments,
collections, and legal considerations. Book and material fees to be covered in class. (Pre- requisite Medical Coding I) Class must be completed within 16 wks.

Our FREE classes offer quick, hands-on experience for students who want to learn new software or update their skills. Classes are taught at the North County Inland Career Center and are available to all adult students. Classes are 4 hours a day M–F, one to five days long. New schedule of classes available weekly. Classes offered are Windows Vista, Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, and File Management. Call the North County Inland Career Center 760-871-1962. Pre requisite: Type 25 WPM with good Business English communication skills to successfully complete this course of training.
