17 MUSE ON MUNNINGS AT GAINSBOROUGH’S HOUSE
Sir Alfred Munnings was an early 20th-century painter best known for his portrayals of horses. This new exhibition, held at Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury, Suffolk, with artworks from the Munnings Art Museum at Castle House, Dedham, concentrates instead on his landscape paintings. Inspired by his native East
Anglia and following in the steps of Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable, Munnings explored colour, light and form, eschewing the more jarring and experimental works of the Modernist artists who were his contemporaries. The exhibition runs from 5 March to 4 June. Tel: (01787) 372958;
