W
hen you receive this issue, we’ll be getting ever nearer party time – the celebrations for the royal wedding in London. We all love an excuse to party and it looks like much of the world will be joining us in this one.
Britain’s royal family continues to be a source of fascination to many, with its long history and role of service to the nation and Commonwealth countries. An extra day’s public holiday won't be too unpopular either, with the Brits! To mark this occasion, we’re taking a look at what is planned, and also casting our eyes back over royal weddings of the past – from venues to dresses. Turn to page 22 to read more. We’re also taking the chance to catch up with the folks at Highclere Castle, which is also becoming famous around the world for its role as the main location for the hit new television series, Downton Abbey. A second series is already being planned and the first is now being broadcast in the USA and, no doubt, around the world – so look out for it on a television channel near you! Lord Carnarvon and writer Julian Fellowes talk to us about what was involved in creating this stunning period drama. I also want to take this opportunity to say my farewells to you all. This is my last
issue as editor of BRITAIN magazine – it’s been the most marvellous job in the world telling you all about this fabulous country since 1994! Keep visiting – and keep reading your copies of BRITAIN magazine. Join me in wishing the new editor, Sam Pears, all the best. And for one last time.... enjoy!
