alderrama, the course in Sotogrande, southern Spain that hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup, two WGC-American Express World Championships and 16 season-ending Volvo Masters on the
European Tour, is under new ownership in a deal valued at around €40million. Zagaleta Limited, a UK subsidiary of Grupo la Zagaleta Holding and
owner of a gated golf resort community in Benahavis, also on the Costa del Sol, has acquired the Valderrama Group, which in addition to the fabled 18-hole layout includes a real-estate project known as Valderrama 2. The development of a new 'championship' course is included as part
of Valderrama 2. With a residential business successfully developed over the past 25 years by la Zagaleta in Benahavis and Marbella, the group expects to invest upward of €200m over the next 10 years. Jacobo Cestino, managing director of Grupo la Zagaleta Holding in Spain, said: “This transaction confirms our position at the forefront of the high-end luxury property market as well as connecting us to one of the world's most prestigious golf brands. he PGA has donated £50,000 to the Golf Foundation to help the game’s continued growth at grass-roots level. The charity runs HSBC Golf Roots projects in communities and schools, including
Street Golf, Golf Xtreme and Tri-Golf, and works closely with many PGA professionals to make the sport more accessible for juniors. Among its recent
successes is the Junior Golf Passport scheme which has proved popular with pros and has helped clubs attract new golfers. PGA chief

Foundation, were presented with the cheque at the PGA’s annual fundraising lunch in central London. “The Golf Foundation is delighted to receive this funding from one of its greatest supporters,” said Pyle. “PGA members understand the vital importance of encouraging the next generation of young people into golf and this money will be invested wisely. The purpose of this charity is to make golf and its benefits available to any young person and to help them ‘Start, Learn and Stay’ in the sport. “PGA professionals play a key role in all our HSBC Golf Roots projects, which created more
than 3,600 new junior members in clubs in England alone last year. By 2018 we aim to generate 5,000 new members per year, 10,000 new regular players and introduce 25,000 new young people to regular coaching. We cannot achieve these ambitious targets without the help and work of the PGA’s members.”
