announced a new crystal technology being used in high temperature applications called UHT-12™. Accelerometers designed with UHT-12™ make measurements with better accuracy and lower noise over large temperature profiles.
"This new
development solves the gas turbine manufacturers’ problems with ceramic based sensors known as pyroelectric noise," said PCB. "The material also has the ability to operate in shear mode, isolating the accelerometer from thermal influences and base strain errors." UHT-12™ technology allows accelerometers to be insensitive to temperature variations. This is ideal for applications such as test and monitoring vibration of gas turbine engines (both in-flight and in test cells), rocket motors and thruster assemblies, turbocharger and exhaust system test and engine balancing. PCB’s UHT-12™ family includes accelerometer models 320C52, 357D90, 357D91, EX611 and series 339.

This includes ‘1709’ models designed to protect critical safety equipment from exposure to high temperature fires in hazardous areas - and keep equipment operational for long periods. The shelters are entirely passive, maintenance-free and impervious to a wide range of corrosive chemicals. Typical applications include protecting valves and
actuators in the emergency shutdown and fire fighting systems of refineries and chemical plants, and offshore oil and gas platforms. Another key application for Intertec's fire protection materials is separating hazardous and non-hazardous areas on ships and on offshore drilling, processing and storage platforms. This development will be of considerable interest to designers seeking a means of meeting the future IEC 61892-7 standard for offshore platforms and vessels, which will demand area separation materials capable of withstanding a hydrocarbon fire for 60-120 minutes.

Fluke announces its “Legend of Fluke” promotion, a way for Fluke digital multimeter (DMM) customers to share their stories for the possibility of winning one of ten state-of- the-art Fluke tool bundles and the glory of becoming a legend.
