TINY TRANSMITTERS meet miniaturisation demands
Keller has introduced a range of easily integrated pressure transmitters for OEMs with digital and ratiometric interfaces
K
eller has introduced the compact Series LD pressure transmitters.
According to the company, these tiny transmitters are setting new trends in OEM applications, as miniaturization is now becoming a reality. In its Series 4 LC...9 LC pressure transmitters, the special ASIC for signal processing is fitted directly next to the pressure sensor, in the same housing, under oil, and with the exclusion of air. This yields a host of advantages in terms of application: all the key pressure measurement components are now protected against the risks from humidity and condensation. The interior wiring is implemented with short, lightweight bonding wires, while sintered-in pressure-resistant glass lead-through feed the transmitter signals out. Together
with the high-grade stainless steel housing, they form a Faraday cage around the measuring system, acting as feed-through capacitors. This makes the CiO technology absolutely RFI resistant up to field strengths of 250V/m and for frequencies of up to 4GHz. Series 4 LC...9 LC pressure transmitters
offers two output signals: a ratiometric analogue voltage output and a digital inter-integrated circuit interface (I2
C).
The ratiometric signal eliminates the need for an expensive voltage reference in the support electronics to the A/D converter, with no additional effort and expense for compensation and calibration. For a voltage supply of 5,0V, the output signal is specified as 0,5 ... 4,5V. For years, the I2
C interface has been regarded as the serial standard in
The LD series is described as a ‘tiny’ pressure transmitter
embedded systems. Up to 128 OEM transmitters in Series 4 LC...9 LC can be addressed successively by one I2
C C master
in order to call up the current pressure and temperature values from the transmitters (slaves). With an I2
output, the pressure transmitters can operate with a voltage supply of only 2,7…3,6 VDC, and they are ready to supply the current measured values 5ms after switching on. Appropriate ON/OFF operation and low power consumption make these transmitters ideally suited for mobile applications.

ATEX certified humidity and temperature sensors launched
The Rotronic Intrinsically Safe HygroFlex5-EX series of humidity/moisture and temperature sensors was developed for easy installation in areas where there is a risk of explosion due to dust or gas in the environment
R
otronic’s HygroFlex5-EX series of sensors were designed to meet the demanding requirements of the oil & gas industry as well as the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and
food industries, and will also be suitable for
hazardous applications elsewhere. Conforming to the latest international standards, the Rotronic HygroFlex5-EX transmitter is galvanically isolated; there is no need for an intrinsically safe power supply, ‘clean’ earth or Zener barrier,
20 OCTOBER 2015 | INSTRUMENTATION thereby saving costs and installation time.
PROBES FOR ALL APPLICATIONS The intrinsically safe transmitters have two channel 4…20 mA outputs selected from temperature, humidity or a moisture value such as dew point or ‘absolute humidity’ (for example Mixing Ratio g/kg). These can be freely scaled exactly as required, using Rotronic HW4 software, for the process being monitored or controlled. Main features include:
• Stainless steel probes certified for ATEX Zone 0/20
• Standard & cable mount probes with a screw-in probe for pressure applications • HygroFlex5-EX measurement transmitter certified for Zone 1/21
• An intrinsically safe power supply is NOT required; the transmitter is galvanically isolated
• Wall and duct versions available. An LC display is an option
• 2-wire supply, 2-analogue outputs (option of dew point, absolute humidity (g/kg) or another moisture value) • Robust aluminium transmitter housing; high IP66 protection
• A range of calibration accessories for use in the Safe Area
