Single cabin, P&O Cruises’ Britannia SINGLES IN DEMAND ABOARD A RANGE OF SHIPS

Lines chase the solo cruiser pound

Single cruisers have never had it so good as competition on the high seas forces more companies to chase lone travellers to help fill their ships.

Cruise & Maritime Voyages is the

latest to woo folk travelling alone, setting aside 150 inside and oceanview cabins on Magellan for single occupancy, all with a supplement of just 25%, well below the industry average of 100%. The company has

also promised to hold singles’ cocktail parties and get-togethers where passengers travelling alone can get to know each other. Launched in 1986 as a Carnival Cruise Lines’ ship, Magellan will replace Marco Polo as CMV’s flagship in March after a refit.

The vessel holds around 1,250 passengers and will be based mainly in Tilbury, with a few summer sailings also departing from Newcastle. Several other cruise lines have their eye on the singles market. P&O Cruises’ Britannia, launching March, will have 27 single cabins, while Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas, entering service in April, will have 12 studio balcony cabins and 16 inside rooms that connect to family suites but can also be

sold as singles. Nine single cabins were added to

Cunard’s Queen Victoria during a January refit, while Holland America Line’s new Koningsdam, launching in February 2016, will have 12 single oceanview cabins.
