Crystal to gain third vessel following $550m sale to Hong Kong company


Crystal Cruises is set to gain a new-build third ship if a planned takeover of the luxury line goes ahead this summer. Japanese parent Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha has agreed to sell the line to hospitality giant Genting Hong Kong (GHK). The $550 million deal is expected to be completed in the second


quarter of the year. GHK owns Asian line Star Cruises and is a major shareholder in


Norwegian Cruise Line. GHK chairman and chief executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay said: “Genting will provide financial resources and proven expertise in innovative ship design to build a new ship that will set the highest standard in luxury cruise ships. “The current management team and crew will continue to lead Crystal Cruises.”


Clia Europe lobbies for visa changes Cruise lines in Europe are lobbying for action to combat cumbersome visa procedures that the European Commission estimates lose the region six million potential tourists a year. Clia Europe members have met EU decision-makers and tourism bodies in a bid to unlock the potential of maritime tourism. This comes against a backdrop of Europe steadily losing


market share in world tourism, decreasing from 64% in 1980 to 51% in 2010. The UN World Tourism Organisation has predicted that this

Imagine Cruising strikes Silver as awards sponsor
