King Evelthon Beach Hotel & Resort
Secret Valley golf course
TRIED & TESTED: Almyra, Paphos
seafront location near the Tombs of the Kings, plus the rebrand of one of the region’s best-known resorts into Sensatori Resort Aphrodite Hills from next May. A multimillion-pound investment will see the latter’s rooms modernised, a bigger pool area, new water features and an updated entertainment venue, while the flagship golf course and tennis academy will continue under the new brand. Sports fans will have even
more choice, though, with the soon-to-open second golf course
and academy at Secret Valley, already home to one scenic course, and expanded tennis facilities at fellow golf resort Minthis Hills, near Tsada village. There will be plenty to exercise the mind too, with preparations for Paphos becoming European Capital of Culture in 2017. Visitors can expect more theatre performances, music, dance and art exhibitions to breathe new life into Paphos’s museums, plus improvements in access to the town’s historic sites. Keep an eye on

I thought I’d explored every nook of my stylish Kyma suite on the night I arrived – I’d tested the espresso machine, checked out the enormous bathroom with separate rain shower, bath and dressing area, lounged on the three-seater sofa and sprawled myself across the super-king- sized bed, but the biggest treat was still in store. Waking up to find glorious
seafront views greeting me through floor-to-ceiling windows – though better admired from the private terrace, naturally – it was clear why this suite had taken its name from the Greek word for ‘wave’. Overlooking the sparkling
waters of the Mediterranean, this chic resort looks positively youthful for its 40 years thanks to a massive refurbishment in 2003, when the property
changed its name, overhauled its decor in favour of an understated all-white theme, and earned a spot in the global portfolio of Design Hotels. It’s trendy but not pretentious,
with a family-friendly vibe, four relaxed restaurants, a tennis court and TV room hosting movie nights. An adult-only spa block was added in 2008 with indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, Jacuzzi and gym, plus guests can use the squash courts at the neighbouring Annabelle or take a drive up to Latchi where sister resort Anassa boasts a gorgeous beach. But for those sticking to the southwest, a sunset stroll along the seafront – the hotel has a path with direct access to the boardwalk – towards Paphos Castle will offer all the beautiful views they need.
