Discover Egypt echoes FCO’s ‘Nile cruises safe’ advice Juliet Dennis

Discover Egypt is reassuring agents that Luxor and the Nile are safe to visit as it puts its Ultimate Long Nile cruises back on sale after a travel ban affecting the centre of the country was lifted. The Foreign and

Commonwealth Office changed its advice for ‘middle Egypt’ – the area between Cairo and Luxor – on November 26, reopening access to the lower part of the River Nile. Discover Egypt’s cruises, which span the 600 miles from Cairo to Aswan, have been reintroduced for 2015.

The four nine, 12 and 14-night

itineraries visit sites such as the Valley of the Kings and Pyramids. A nine-night Luxor-Cairo cruise on May 1 starts at £1,899, including flights, transfers and excursions. Director Philip Breckner said:

OPERATOR NEWS IN BRIEF

“The general feeling among agents is that the Red Sea is OK but the Nile and Luxor are more dangerous, which is a misnomer.” Breckner said general awareness

was not helped by confusing advice on the Foreign Office’s website. He added that the operator’s

direct business was holding up but trade sales, which account for 50% of business, had “halved”. “I don’t expect every agent to

be proactive, but there is no need to be negative,” said Breckner. He stressed good-value deals

were on offer, such as £200 off seven-night luxury Nile cruises. discoveregypt.co.uk
