Eversfi eld starts work on new sports centre
Solihull prep school will open £2.6m sports and performing arts facility next year ›
Work has started on a brand new a brand-new multi- functional school hall and swimming pool at Eversfi eld Preparatory School in Solihull.
Building contractors Stepnell recently began work on the year-long construction programme to create the Eversfi eld Sports and Performing Arts Centre, or E.SPACe. The new multi-purpose hall will triple the Prep School’s indoor sports space, providing facilities for badminton, mini tennis, mini basketball, indoor hockey and cricket. The hall will also be used for large assemblies, drama performances and other major school events and will include extensive performance and rehearsal space. The project will also involve the relocation of the school’s existing outdoor swimming pool which will be brought under cover. A new foyer, offi ce and reception area will be built linking the hall and indoor pool to the existing sports changing rooms. The project is designed by architects Roberts Limbrick,
with construction set to be completed in July 2015.
Stepnell construction director Bill Haynes
says: “This is a very exciting project which will create leading-edge sporting and arts facilities for Eversfi eld. The project will see our team drawing on their considerable experience of working in busy ‘live’ environments in order to ensure that any disruption to the Prep School’s usual routine is minimised. We have a strong record of delivering exceptional educational buildings and are pleased to be using that expertise in partnership with Eversfi eld Preparatory School to create this superb centre.” Back in July on the fi rst day of the summer holidays, incoming Head Boy Alexander
Robinson and Head Girl Emily Tran donned hard hats and high-vis jackets to dig the fi rst hole for the site of the new centre, on the site of the school’s existing playing fi eld.
Headmaster Robert Yates says:
“Having such outstanding facilities at our fi ngertips will provide the best platform for discovering and nurturing our pupils’ talents. I know that the children are eagerly anticipating our fi rst indoor swimming sports events next year, and we have been most fortunate to have the support of our parents, alumni and friends of the school in fundraising for a covered pool. “Our Sports department has been aiming high and has produced some excellent wins at home and away over the last year. Further diversifi cation of sport at Eversfi eld, made possible by the new sports hall, will offer new challenges to our children and a real breadth of activities at lunchtime and after school. It is an exciting time to be a pupil at Eversfi eld." ISS
