ISS caught up with Raging Bull Managing Director Carl Richards to chat about the schoolwear market and tackling the competition


›› ISS: What do you believe schools are looking for in a sportswear provider? Carl Richards: “Flexibility, quality and costs are key factors considered by schools when they choose a sportswear supplier. The combination of a school’s budgetary constraints and the high volume of product they require means that the clothing supplier must deliver quality garments at a cost effective price. We believe we’re one of the most competitively priced suppliers in the industry. “Style is also becoming more important


to schools. We can design, produce and deliver a full range of exciting PE uniform for your school – a bespoke uniform with a professional look giving pupils a sense of pride and belonging. Our designers will work closely with the school to develop an exclusive range of unique clothing.”

›› ISS: Raging Bull Sportswear is a relatively new clothing supplier in the school market: what do you offer that makes you stand out from the competition? CR: “As a brand, we are the new kid on the block, but what many people


›› ISS: How does the service you provide to a school differ from other suppliers? CR: “We believe sports masters like their teams to be kitted out in the latest, technically advanced sportswear. At Raging Bull, we are at the cutting edge of technology both in terms of high performance fabrics and innovative garment construction. We have taken our expertise in the rugby and schoolwear markets and developed a market-leading range covering all major sports. At the


University of Gloucestershire, for example, we supply team kits for 30 different sports. “Our delivery times are another


advantage to trading with Raging Bull. Our bespoke uniforms are produced on a six-week average turnover, so there’s no need to order months of stock in one go. This helps the school control their cash flow better and to be able to fill any gaps in their stocks quickly.”


›› ISS: How is e-commerce affecting the market? CR: “In some schools, it’s not making a difference, but we are finding that as parents use the internet more to buy goods they will expect to buy their school PE kit online. We currently offer this service to 120 sports clubs and have just added the University of Gloucestershire to our e-commerce catalogue. We can work with individual schools to advise and develop an online presence should they wish.” ISS
