PELLETIZING SYSTEMS RE-Scheer launches new strand pelletizers
RE-Scheer has extended its range of strand pelletizers with a new machine series for small and medium through- puts. The SGS L-10 machines are available in four sizes with working widths from 100 to 400 mm and throughputs up to 4 tonnes/hour. The advantages of the new
pelletizers include their compact dimensions and their user-friendly design for easier and faster product changes and replacement of wear parts. In addition, a new cutting geometry improves the pellet quality. The arrangement of the
cutting rotor, feed-rolls and bed knife has been redesigned to minimise the unguided length of the strands between the feed-rolls and the cutting edge. This means that the polymer strands now arrive more even and straight at the cutting rotor. RE-Scheers says that the
new design improves the pellet quality for all types of poly- mers, but especially when processing very soft and elastic materials where the amount of reject pellets due to

RE-Scheer has optimised its SGS L-10 pelletizers for quick and simple maintenance
incorrect length and/or double cuts can be drastically reduced. In addition, the new arrangement of the bed-knife results in an almost rectangu- lar cut to the centre line of the strand and considerably reduc- es the amount of fines when cutting brittle materials. The development of the SGS L-10 series focused on optimising the processing of small and medium lots of a wide high variety of different polymers and formulations, particularly by minimising the downtime between products.
To simplify cleaning and
maintenance, the weight of the upper and lower feed rolls have been reduced by 15 and 60% respectively to allow easy removal by just one person without additional lifting equipment. Disassembly of the lower feed roll and the complete cutting rotor unit now requires the loosening of fewer screws, while the upper feed roll can be removed without the use of any tools. The cutting gap between the bed-knife and the cutting rotor can be adjusted by easily
accessible push and pull bolts. In addition, the front-part of the cutting chamber can be pulled forward on linear guides to allow fast and tool-less access for cleaning and maintenance, while the bed knife can be replaced without dismounting the cutting rotor. As a result of all these design improvements, the downtime for product changes or exchange of wear parts can be reduced by 30 to 40%, says RE-Scheer. An improved acoustic hood, plus insulation of structure-borne noise between the cutting chamber and the machine frame, help to minimise noise levels generated by the SGS L-10 pelletizers to less than 85 dB(A) according to DIN. Despite major design
revisions, the SGS L-10 can use key parts from existing RE-Scheer pelletizers, including the bed knife and the cutting knife segments, which avoids the need for additional spare parts. ❙
