Ettlinger Kunststoffmaschinen has supplied an ERF melt filter to CPE Entsorgung, a plastics recycler based in Liebenau, Germany. It is being used in a new project to recover polystyrene from coarsely shredded refrigerator waste with a high proportion of contaminants. The recycled material is used to make sheets for thermoformed products, such as plant trays. CPE has equipped a

KraussMaffei Berstorff has extended its modular compounding line portfolio with the launch of the cost-effective ModulPlus which optimises the steel structure housing the materials handling and pelletizing equipment. metering, material handling, pelletizing and control modules remain largely unchanged and are still completely assembled in Hannover. However, the extruder is no longer integrated into a steel module. This offers free access to the extruder at ground level. The design leads to the significant savings in assembly time and costs
as simultaneous manufacturing operations can be carried out at the Hannover factory, explains Thorsten Schroer, assistant head of plant engineering at KraussMaffei Berstorff. “A further plus factor is the
possible international labour division: if necessary, assembly, completion and testing of the steel structure and peripheral compo- nents can be performed by the KraussMaffei Berstorff subsidiaries in China and the USA and the equipment can subsequently be combined with the extruder that was manufactured in Hannover”, he adds. Four ModulPlus lines have
already been delivered, including systems that have been installed in Denmark and China. ❙

contaminants are retained on the outside of the screen and the cleaned melt flows to the inside. With every revolution, the slowly rotating filter drum is cleaned by a scraper that feeds the foreign particles to an exit screw. This design enables the
CPE is recycling PS from fridges so that it can be used in applications such as plant trays
installed directly between the extruder and the granulator. The screen area is 1,500 cm², and the filter rating chosen for this particular application is 150 µm (80 to 1000 µm can be supplied as standard).
The ERF filtration system, which is designed specifically for recycling applications, features a continuous high-speed filter equipped with a rotating drum. When melt flows through the filter,
ERF filter to deliver consist- ent pressure and a high melt quality, even at high contami- nation levels. CPE says that a static filter screen or a backflush screen-changer would not have been able to handle this particularly tough filtration task. ❙
