Facilities boost for Greenwich W: www.universitybusiness.co.uk | T: @UB_UK

An important new addition to the Greenwich Campus will soon open its doors to students, including the UK's largest landscaped roof. In a key location on

Stockwell Street, at the heart of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, this state-of-the- art building includes a purpose-built home for disciplines in architecture, construction, creative media and digital design. Students from across the campus will use the building’s new library (double the size of the current one, with 370 study spaces and over 130,000 volumes) as well as its lecture theatres, seminar rooms and other facilities.

Alongside open

plan learning spaces, contemporary lecture theatres and exhibition spaces, the building will also provide computer suites and social spaces for meetings, study and accessing learning technologies. Designed to encourage the buzz of exchange and collaboration, it will bring the public even closer to the life of the university, with access to the on-site café, exhibition

space and shop. There will also be public access to the university’s unique historical archives detailing its fascinating heritage. The investment

programme also includes the nearby Daniel Defoe hall of residence, which will provide 358 en-suite rooms for students as well as a café and gym for residents. Sustainability underpins both these projects, contributing to the university’s already outstanding green credentials. Both have been designed to BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standards and the new building at Stockwell Street has also been awarded two prestigious BREEAM innovation credits.
