Quick reference guide Why Engineering

“…engineering is the way that scientific progress gets translated into jobs, wealth and quality of life.” Martyn Thomas CBE

Engineering and technology are thriving in the UK but there is a very real problem when it comes to filling jobs. Recent surveys* have revealed a massive skills shortage in the UK’s engineering sector, particularly at technician level, both now and over the next decade. To address this we need to encourage young people to study science, maths, design and technology, engineering and computer science at school and to pursue engineering-based courses and apprenticeships. If they do then a huge array of rewarding and challenging careers are on offer.
