T e fi rst-ever curling stones will be thrown in the United States’ 50th


state as the Hawaii Charity Curling event continues to take shape in Hono- lulu. T e event is scheduled to take place Oct. 17 at the Ice Palace. T e event is being backed by American Savings Bank with profi ts going to the Kapi- olani Hospital for Women and Children in Honolulu and USA Curling, and will feature celebrities from Hawaii as well as 2010 Olympic curlers Tracy Sachtjen and John Benton. A curling demonstration took place in Santa Fe, N.M., in August. Den-


ver Curling Club members Tom Whitman, Scott Stevinson and Phil Moir hauled 1,300 lbs of granite (32 rocks) to the Enchanted City of Santa Fe and led an open house at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center with about 150 local residents coming out to give curling a try.
