Potter Perrin has unveiled its new look boutique showroom in London, transformed to create an inspirational environment for designers, architects and discerning consumers. Both classic and contemporary surfaces and bathroom pieces are showcased in a variety of spacious room sets with many exclusive tile collections being shown for the first time in the UK.
he KBSA has added a new award, the KBSA Kitchen Concept Designer of the Year to this year’s categories. The award is designed to test a designer’s skill in working to a specific brief in an average size kitchen.
The KBSA re-launched the Designer Awards successfully last year as a result of member demand and has introduced the new award in response to feedback that some awards favour the more expensive projects where space is unlimited. This award focuses on a typical family kitchen that still warrants an inspirational design despite the limitations on space.
“We are delighted to have introduced this new category and hope that many of our members will rise to the challenge and show that they can offer the excellence they are renowned for - whatever the brief,” says Graham Ball, CEO of the KBSA.
The brief for the Concept Designer of the Year Award outlines details of the family and what they hope to achieve from their new kitchen; it includes a floor plan with a wish list of appliances. Entrants are asked to submit a CAD design in response to the brief. “We have invited KBSA member Stuart Irving of Ablutions in Coalville, to join the judging panel for this award,” says Graham. “He has been instrumental in developing this idea and the brief.” The awards will be presented at the national networking dinner which will be held at Billesley Manor Hotel in Alvechurch in Warwickshire on 11th September.
Entries can be sent electronically this year as well as posted with a deadline of 31 May 2013.
The following is a full list of categories for 2013: The KBSA Kitchen Designer of the Year The KBSA Kitchen Concept Designer of the Year The KBSA Bathroom Designer of the Year The KBSA Bedroom Designer of the Year The KBSA Home Office Designer of the Year The KBSA Young Designer of the Year

A fistful of appointments at Salamander
The past few months have been significant in the development of Salamander Pumps. The company’s brass ended Force range achieved WRAS Approval; this was followed by the launch of Home Boost which was greeted by unprecedented interest and sales and became a finalist for a Pump Industry Award (PIA) and also received WRAS Approval.
Meanwhile, its senior management team has been strengthened, making a number of key appointments to support its focus on innovation and customer service: technical director Gareth Richard; national accounts manager Sophie Twiggs; business development manager (northern) Simon Platts; office and marketing manager Claire Thompson; and IT manager Simon Scott. “We have implemented a process improvement cycle that embraces every discipline from product development through to after sales,” says MD Tony Graves. “We have invested in higher quality materials within the products, in IT and telephone systems; but most importantly, we continue to invest in people.”

Renowned for its expertise and design foresight, by joining forces with RAK Ceramics Potter Perrin is able to draw on an almost limitless range of quality, design-led products to suit all tastes and budgets. Projects can be planned and visualised on site using its virtual-world CAD system.
“We wanted to create a space where customers could draw inspiration while viewing an exciting range of products in real-life room settings,” comments commercial director Harriet Perrin. “You need to see the different products in context; how the surfaces, textures and shapes work alongside each other in different light levels – and that is what we’ve achieved.”
