Day in the Life......

marketing campaigns and retail audits can help them to achieve this. From mid morning I can be found scoping out new projects and checking our internal systems for management information reports to see what work is currently in progress. In combination with the new business and marketing meeting this gives me a complete view of what’s happening in the business in terms of current and potential work, which is invaluable when I’m planning what resources we need where and when.

It’s already lunch, where does the time go? I grab 20 minutes out of the office to get something to eat and take in some fresh air to allow my mind to reset. The middle of the day is also an ideal time to catch up with the team either in the kitchen or at their desks ‐ knowing the people who report to me is important to assisting in their personnel development. Straight after lunch I move on to the more strategic part of my role. This involves ensuring that Momentum Instore is on track to deliver against our five‐year business plan, whilst staying focused on our client needs. As part of this I’m currently looking at ways in which we can use the latest technology to drive us towards our goals. This

includes researching how apps could further enhance our offering to enable us to work at maximum efficiency internally. Late afternoon I meet up with the account teams to review how work is being scheduled and make sure all projects are progressing well and will be completed on time. Ensuring that we have robust systems and processes in place also falls within my remit. When you deal with a workforce of around 1000 people who are involved in implementing projects for major retailers and brands all across the UK, accurate scheduling is vital and this is why we have recently invested in new dynamic resource scheduling software. One of the many things I enjoy about my job is that I get a 360‐degree view of the business. One day I might be working with our finance team to monitor the procedures they follow, and the next I could be asked to attend a client pitch. I also get involved in client reviews and development meetings, so I regularly get to see all aspects of the business. My role and the industry I work in means that I always have to have one eye on the future. Whether I’m introducing a new software solution or implementing a new service it is always with a view to making sure we can meet the needs of

our clients long‐term. Nothing stands still for long in retail so it is crucial for us that we move forward in a way that will futureproof our offering. I usually leave the office around 7pm. When I get home I’ll pour myself a glass of wine and while I’m cooking supper I’ll have a think back over the day. This helps me to gather my thoughts and do some planning for the next day in a relaxed setting. After that though I’ll switch off completely until my alarm goes off the next morning so I feel completely refreshed and raring to go when I wake up.
