Sustainability and Recycling

“Both sustainability and recycling are inextricably linked and despite the ‘green’ label they are given, it is really about driving efficiencies – making more efficient use of materials, design knowledge and processes during POS production, and finding efficient ways to recoup the investment made in POS assets at the end of their life in‐store. Whilst decisions concerning materials choice can impact significantly on both aspects, taking a more sustainable approach to pre‐campaign planning and campaign de‐installation can bring many positive benefits too.


The environmental legacy of POS can often be compromised before a single display has even been designed or manufactured. There are many examples of POS displays being produced that are not fully aligned to the retail estate in which they are to be installed. This can result in POS displays not being accepted into store, or not being correctly sited. The legacy of this is not just financial in terms of in‐store campaigns failing to deliver expected impact and uplift, but also the resources





materials that we estimate to be around 97% natural, making them, we believe, the most environmentally kind type of mannequin on the market today. Using FSC recycled card, inert paste and plaster along with recyclable steel, FSC wood and simple natural fabrics in their production, they are robustly built to last many years if handled with care and can be finished in a wide range of styles, recovering and reusing as fashion tastes alter.


Fibreglass is trickier to ‘green’ and in striving to do this we have been down a number of routes to take out the more undesirable elements, experimenting for instance with substitute fibreglass materials and plant resins. We have found that either the industry in general has not reached the tipping point, thus demand for the necessary materials is too small to make them available or the viability of more eco friendly materials is too energy heavy or comes with an unacceptable carbon footprint which negates the process. It is true to say that the whole area of recycling and sustainability in terms of mannequin production brings a very complicated and complex set of issues. We continue to develop our eco credentials but are mindful

that were used in the production of the displays – which are essentially turned into waste. For example: energy, materials and transportation. The sustainability footprint of POS campaigns can be greatly enhanced by ensuring only essential resources are used, and that requires a detailed understanding of what is required before design even begins.”

not to overpromise results. Our recent RAW collection focuses on authentic materials in their most natural state, utilising papier‐mâché, raw metal, sandblasted glass, distressed wood and some colour stains rather than paint, married with a modern industrial aesthetic which compliments perfectly.”
