introduction the connected world supplement The IBC Connected World @ IBC2012

Connected world products and services continue to be a key focus of exhibits at IBC. This supplement looks at this technology and the business models it supports, and includes the Official Guide to the IBC Connected World - situated in Hall 14 at IBC2012. The light-speed growth in the penetration of Internet-connected devices and the services that run on them have huge implications for

traditional media. Smart phones, games consoles, netbooks, connected TVs and tablets are making content available on-demand anywhere and with an unprecedented degree of personalisation. Bringing together the latest developments in mobile TV, 3G and 4G services, pioneering applications and technologies that are driving content ‘over-the-top’ into the home, the IBC Connected World is designed to help anyone looking to make sense of these dramatic changes in the media landscape. Located in the new Hall 14 in front of Halls 1-3, the IBC Connected World will once again incorporate a special Demonstration Area that will

host a programme of informative and thought-provoking Connected Consumer Debates interspersed with short demonstrations of some of the latest connected TV products and services (see preview on page S4). The ConnectedWorld.TV Awards also return for their second incarnation, being presented at a gala dinner at the Hotel Ocura on the Monday

night of IBC2012. The event has grown in stature, buoyed by the phenomenal success of last year’s inaugural event (see preview on page S6). IBC continues to build on its foundation as Europe’s premier annual event for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery

of entertainment and news content worldwide by embracing the new media landscape created by the Connected World. The IBC Connected World showcases the businesses that demonstrate how new and developing connected technologies and devices can deliver the ultimate connected content experience, whilst leveraging the commercial opportunities enabled within the Connected World environment. Cisco’s continued support of the IBC Connected World - as Platinum Sponsor - clearly demonstrates that this sector remains the focus of the largest, most experienced and most professional companies operating in the wider broadcast market.
