Land Mobile’s series, our experts (page 30) noted that the choice of business radio technologies open to users in the UK looks wider than ever. A glance through this issue will find not only some new options on the way (dPMR trunking) but the renewal of a seemingly timeless classic (two MPT1327 projects). Alas, making a choice doesn’t seem to be getting any easier, for larger systems at least. Many private Tetra projects are ruled out by the lack of suitable frequencies. With the narrow- band ETSI digital technologies, trunking hasn’t arrived yet. And even when it does, it won’t be field-proven: one industry expert reminds us that it took ten years to debug MPT 1327 fully. At the same time, there’s no knowing how long manufacturers will maintain support for analogue products. Richard Lambley, Editor
