Interactive, a part of the Teleware Group. The company specializes in the compression and transmission of live video over wired and wireless networks, including low bit-rate GPRS and 3G. Centred on a new hardware module providing video compression

capabilities, its new range will offer a choice of deployment options, including body-worn and vehicle-mounted cameras, a dome camera kit, support for other cameras, and a rugged portable unit for external surveillance. Video can be transmitted cost-effectively from remote and mobile locations back to control rooms, and then, optionally, out to operatives on the ground. “Over the last 18 months we

have completed a number of key council, blue light and military deployments which have consolidated our understanding of the market requirements and allowed us to optimize the Vemotion solutions with our PCB hardware module”, said Stewart McCone, managing director of Vemotion Interactive.

LMW Surveillance is taking a different tack. By thinning down data rates and bandwidths in a drive for spectral effi ciency and economy, it promises full motion video transmission over narrowband PMR-type radio channels. Performance is similar to that achieved over GPRS but without the airtime costs, the company says. Based on 18 months or research and development work, LMW’s

Swift video transmission product uses a low-power codec optimized for low data rates, in conjunction with a software-defi ned radio and DQPSK modem. It will operate at data rates from 32 kbit/s up to 19·2 kbit/s with bandwidths adjustable under software control from 25 kHz down to 6·25 kHz, and with a choice of video settings from VGA to QCIF at up to 10 frames per second. AES encryption is built in and power levels will be selectable up to 1 watt output. For setting the device up, a rugged ‘fi ll gun’ will allow the user

to preset the radio and codec functions prior to deployment. The product, which will be ready by

the end of the year, will be available for frequencies within the traditional UHF and VHF spectrum, including licence-free bands and telemetry channels. LMW adds that an array of approvals is on the way. Offering the device at a

competitive price, LMW believes it will break new ground in extending CCTV availability to remote and rural areas where little or no network coverage is in place, without breaking the bank or polluting the airwaves, and on 12 volt power.
