Charles "Charlie" Patrick Hovis, 81, died Saturday,May 29, 2010, at Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC. A native of Fayetteville, TN, he was the youngest child of the late Robert and Mary Alma Hovis.


As an attorney, Charlie practiced law in the Washington, D.C. area for 30 years, which included 12 years with the General Counsel’s office of the General Accounting Office (GA0) and eight years as an Adminis- trative Law Judge for the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals, from which he retired in 1988.


Charlie is survived by his wife, Janet; his three daughters, Carol, Kathy and Brenda; his grandchildren, Corynne and Dylan; his sister, Rachel Taylor; his son-in-law, Chris Highland, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.


A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church,Asheville,NC.

After the War the couple moved to Wash- ington DC where Robert began his career with the FBI and Ayeliffe began a career raising their four sons. In 1955 Ayeliffe went back to school receiving her BSN from Catholic University in 1959. She later went on to earn her MSN and PHD from the University of Maryland. In 1969 the couple moved to Vermont and for the next 6 years Ayeliffe held a variety of jobs including the Director to the Montpelier Home Health Agency, Director of Nursing Services at the Berlin Convalescent Center, and Nurse Consultant / Coordinator at the University of Vermont and the Vermont College of Norwich University.


Bob and Ayeliffe returned to Washington in 1975 and Ayeliffe became an instructor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing . She later served as an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the graduate school at George Mason University before ending her career as a Nurse Consultant with the Department of Health and Human Services where she traveled extensively evaluating nursing programs around the country. In 1997 she suffered a catastrophic stoke leaving her totally paralyzed on her left side. Through sheer will power she regained her speech , her mobility and even her driver's license. Despite her handicap when Robert became an invalid she became his principal caregiver allowing him to remain in their home until he died in 2007 at the age of 89. She continued to live independently in her home until last October when serious illness mandated a long hospital stay fol- lowed by rehabilitation at the Friends Home.


She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Magdelina Schaible, her sisters Aurora and Arlo, her brother Clifford, her husband Robert and a son John Todd.


She is survived by her sons Greg, Jacob and Frank , her grandsons Jake, Ross and Paul, and perhaps her favorite companion, Ilsa, her German Shepherd.


A Celebration of Life Service will he held


on June 22 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 11612 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. 20904 Inurn- ment to follow at 3 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. Ralph Yarbrough and was an information officer for the US Dept of Education. He retired in 1989 and lived in Tyler for four years before moving until to Jacksonville. Lou was an avid golfer and Cherokee Country Club member for 20 years as well as a member of Liberty Hill Methodist Church in Tyler. Of Charlottesville, VA, died May 14, 2010. LTC. Mait served 21 years of active service in the Army, during which he served 2 tours in Vietnam, a tour in Korea, and a tour in Germany. He received the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, and the Air Medal. After his military career, he served the Commonwealth of Virginia for 19 years with the Department of Criminal Justice Services; including 10 years as Deputy Director. His service was recognized by the Virginia Senate May 1994 in Senate Resolution No. 103. Following his state service, Marty continued his service to his community as a member of the Fluvanna Planning Com- mission. Among his many interests, Marty (AG4DN) was a long time member and State Government Liaison of the Albemarle Amateur Radio Club, a memberand Secretary of theThomas Jefferson Trout Unlimited Chapter, a 50-year member of the Freemasons and a member of the CivilWar Preservation Trust. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Marty graduated from City College of New York with a BA. He would go on to receive a Masters in Public Administration from NewYork University and a Masters in City Planning from the University of Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lila Cohen Mait of Charlottesville, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell B. and Barbara S. of Chesterfield, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph N. and Elisabeth A. of Bethesda, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Leslie S. Elizabeth "Bette" K. Mullen of Warrenton, VA, beloved wife of Clinton B. Mullen and loving mother of Kevin (Linda) MacAfee and Leslie MacAfee and grandmother of Dr. Lauren MacAfee, died on May 26, 2010 in Warrenton after a long battle with cancer. Bette was born in Philadelphia on October 7, 1928 to the late Professor Lester E. and Mae Klimm. She was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and began her professional career participating in cold war operations in post-war Berlin with the then newly formed Central Intelligence Agency. She retired in 2002 as Director of International Activities at AARP after a 20- year career with the Association. Born in Akron, Ohio, Lori Bland with her family moved from Akron toWashington, DC in 1969 where she graduated from West Elementary, Deal Junior High and Wilson Senior High Schools. After attending Baldwin-Wallace Col- lege (Berea, Ohio), she transferred to North Carolina School of the Arts (Winston-Salem, NC) where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982. Moving to New York City to pursue an acting career, Lori met and married David Schulbaum in 1985. Subsequently, the couple established a home in Washington, DC and started their family. When the youngest child began school, Lori was employed as a teaching assistant in her children's school which enabled her to incorporate her training in theater and her natural talent in arts and crafts. During this period she also developed a passion for flower gardening with particular concern for the natural habitat. These activi- ties ceased with the diagnosis of brain cancer in 2007. She is survived by husband, David; children: Maxwell, Collin, and Allyn; parents: Ronald and June Pearson Bland; and sisters: Merryl, Kelli, and Roxanne Bland; and a host of cousins and friends. George Jackson Foster, renowned for his distinctive announcer’s voice and oratorical skills, was probably best known for his annu- al recitation of “It’s Friday, But Sunday’s Coming” during the Good Friday services every spring at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church. After a lengthy illness, on Memorial Day, May 31, 2010 at the age of 80, “Sunday Morning” arrived for George and he went to be with his Lord.


A celebration service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church. Reverend Joe McDaniel and Reverend Donald M. Reid will officiate.

He was dearly loved by his wife of over 50 years, Barbara (Kazio); son, Frank, III; daughter, Michelle Sirch Stasko; daughter- in-law, Joyce Sirch; and four grandchildren, Frankie Sirch, IV, Stephen Sirch, Ian Stasko and Dylan Stasko. He is survived by one sister, Helen Flaig. Frank was an executive with Xerox in Philadelphia and Alexandria, VA. He was an avid golfer, an active member of Hidden Creek Country Club, in Reston, VA. Frank loved to watch competitive sports teams. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania and St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia. He was past president of Springfield Athletic Association. Collier Foster. He served his country in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. George was a graduate of Columbia Teachers College in NewYork City. He taught at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri and was Director of Mass Media Programs at Ft.Valley State University, Ft.Valley, Georgia.


Among his many and varied credentials, he was the first black correspondent for the CBS Network News. He was based in New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco. George was a professional photographer, working in photo journalism for VISTA. He was passion- ate about children’s education and worked for the Children’s Television Company as a contributing writer for Sesame Street and The Electric Company. George was instrumental in the establishment of the television broad- cast center at Howard University, WHMM Channel 32. He was the local coordinator of Macon Reads, whose goal is to improve the literacy of young children.


George was a member and a Deacon of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a member of the choir and the Faith Builders’ Sunday School Class.


George is survived by sons Grant (Catherine Broadbent) Foster of Salt Lake City, Utah and Todd Foster of Macon, and sister-in-law Kit Howard of Buffalo, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wesley Glen Ministries, 3711 Agape Village Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.

Of Tequesta, FL., died Saturday, May 29, 2010 in Lewes, DE. He was born October 20, 1933, in Greensburg, a son of the late Millard A. and Katharine E. Baer Wright. He was a member of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Tequesta Presbyterian Church. Mr. Wright’s business affiliations included Manpower and DOT Temporary Services. He was founder and owner of Temporaries, Inc., a national temporary help service best known for offering groundbreaking benefits such as health insurance, vacation pay and credit union membership to temporary workers. He was founder and owner of Metropolitan Personnel Services, which includes AV/Tec Inc., a temporary service offering audio/visual technicians to hotels and corporations on an “as needed” basis. He was founder of Food for Christmas charities, benefiting food banks throughout the Metropolitan Washington, DC. Maryland, and Virginia areas.

fraternity, Gettysburg College. He was lieutenant J.C. (Ret.) Navy.


He is survived by his beloved Carol Labriola of Florida and California; his brother, Gary Wright, of Mt. Pleasant; son, daughter-in-law and grand- children, Barry and Alicia, Andrea and Andres Wright of Atlanta, Ga; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Janet Jenson Wright of San Mateo, CA; daughter, Alexandra Wright of Palm Beach, FL; as well as friends and family in the metropolitan Washington, DC area, Tequesta and West Palm Beach, FL, Rehoboth Beach, DE; Greensburg, PA and Gettysburg, PA.
