Elizabeth Williams Ivins ’48 of Center -

ville, MA, died October 27 of lung cancer. A phys-ed major, she earned a certificate in physical therapy from Simmons Col - lege–Harvard Medical School. In Bos ton she worked with Children’s Hospital polio patients and at the Veteran’s Ad min is tra - tion hospital. An active volunteer, she spearheaded the Huntington, NY, Meals on Wheels program and served on the boards of the Family Service League, Citi - zens/Fac ulty Committee, and Visiting Nurse Associ ation. She is survived by three daughters, five grandchildren, and a brother.

Nancy Stewart Crockett ’48 of New

Britain, CT, died suddenly on October 24. She was a sociology major. She served Skidmore as a class agent. Predeceased by husband Newkirk, she leaves a son and a daughter.

Nan Currier Hilfrank ’49 of Falmouth,

ME, died February 5. A phys-ed major, she taught at Pembrooke College (now Brown University). She completed a degree in physical therapy from Simmons College and practiced at Carney Hospital as well as at Westbrook Community Hospital and Ledgewood Manor, both in Maine. She was a trustee of the Falmouth Memorial Library. She is survived by husband Wil - liam, three daughters, two sons, seven grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and two sisters.

Claire Sippil Tyser ’49 of Allentown, PA,

died July 8 as a result of a car accident. An art major, she earned teacher certification from the Rochester Institute of Technology and taught in the Brighton, NY, schools for 25 years. She especially enjoyed inter- national travel. She is survived by two daughters and two grandchildren; hus- band Alwyn predeceased her.

ples, FL, died April 18, 2009. She was an English major. She is survived by two daughters, two sons, four stepchildren, 21 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchil- dren. Her two husbands, both named Robert, predeceased her.

Nancy Houghton Bacon ’51 of Palm

Desert, CA, died June 19. An art major, she was an award-winning artist whose work was featured in the Lucien Labaudt Art Gallery in San Francisco and galleries

in Mexico and Hawaii. She was also invit- ed to exhibit at galleries in China. One of her paintings was featured on PBS’s Art - scan. She was a member of the Marin So - ciety of Artists. She is survived by hus- band Richard, a son, a daughter, a broth- er, and two grandchildren.

Janet Gregory Frazer ’52 of Naples, FL,

died January 24 of liver cancer. A theater major, she was a freelance writer for news- papers and magazines around the coun- try. Her book reviews were published and broadcast on radio and television. She is survived by two sons, a brother, and a sis- ter; husband Robert predeceased her.

Nancy Cutting Young ’52 of Chagrin

Falls, OH, died January 9. A business major, she had a number of careers, most recently in real estate. She was founding president of the Richard Cutting Chapter of the Colonial Dames and past president of the Women’s Advisory Council of the Western Reserve Historical Society and served many other local organizations. For Skidmore she was a class agent, fund chair, and reunion and campaign volun- teer. She leaves husband John, three daughters and a son, a brother, and 11 grandchildren.

Anthony Palangi ’52 of Queensbury,

NY, died October 6, 2007. An economics major, he also attended the American Conservatory of Music in Schenectady. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and later built a career as general manager of Jaxton Manufacturing Corporation. He was past president of the local Kiwanas Club, serving on the state level and as a board member of Kiwanas International. He is survived by four sons and three daughters, 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His wives, Madonna and then Virginia, predeceased him.

Beverly Hinsch Owen ’53 of Burr Ridge,

IL, died February 26. A business major, she was a founding member of the Faith Fellowship Church in Oak Brook. She is survived by two daughters, a son, a broth- er, eight grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. Her husband, Donald, pre- deceased her.

Suzanne Eldridge McKean ’53 of Boca

Grande, FL, died February 1. A business major, she was former president of the Junior League of Pittsburgh and a board member of the Women’s Associ ation of the Pittsburgh Symphony. She is survived by husband Frank, two daughters, a son, and several grandchildren.

Ruth Carlson Parker ’53 of Sudbury,

MA, died January 19 of cancer. A business major, she was an avid volunteer, serving

as president and VP of the Bergen County Girls Scouts board of directors, board member of the United Way of North West Bergen, and member of the executive board of the Youth Employment Service of Glen Rock. She was also active in Habi - tat for Humanity. For Skidmore she was an alumni club president, reunion volun- teer, class agent, member of the alumni association’s nominating committee, and regional chair of the Celebration Cam - paign. She is survived by husband David, a son, and two daughters.

Janice Roth Dorfman ’53 of Jupiter, FL,

died suddenly on January 9. A biology major, she also pursued graduate study in biochemistry at New York University and was a former cancer researcher at Sloan Kettering Hospital. She served Skidmore as a reunion volunteer and class agent. She is survived by husband Robert, two sons, four grandchildren, a brother, and three nephews.

Dorothy Garbarino Walka ’53 of Mont -

pelier, VT, died January 8. A business ma - jor, she enjoyed several careers, working as a jewelry maker, gift-shop owner, real estate agent, and insurance agent. She was a member of several business associations. She is survived by her ex-husband, Erick, a grandson, and a great-granddaughter.

Priscilla Greene Taylor ’53 of Vashon,

WA, died October 27. As a board member of the YMCA in Baltimore, MD, she helped foster positive race relations dur- ing the 1960s. A mental health volunteer at Crownsville Hospital in Maryland, she served on the boards of mental health associations on the local, state, and na - tional level. In 1984 she served a four- year term in the Maine State Legislature. She served Skidmore as a class agent and reunion volunteer. She is survived by three sons, a daughter, and three grand- children.

Phyllis Slobodien Sigal ’53 of Warwick,

RI, died May 12, 2009. A psychology ma - jor, she was a devoted member of the Mir - iam Hospital Women's Association and Temple Beth-El, and a fundraiser for can- cer research. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, and 11 grandchildren; her husband, Irving, predeceased her.

Nancy Ashley Byrne ’54 of Wethers -

field, CT, died October 20. A home-ec major, she was the assistant buyer for G. Fox & Co. in Hartford before her mar- riage. She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut.
