Wright Coursen and Beau joined us for a weekend on the town. Snow bombarded New England and made the thought of summer sailing in Boothbay seem far away.

Cynthia Green Kohl loved our

50th reunion. She thanks the vol- unteers who put it together, especially Evy Zoda Shippee, “whose enthusiasm, perse- verance, and skills made it the best reunion ever!”

Barbara Ann Hansen too has wonderful

memories of our 50th. She loved seeing classmates and reminiscing and is proud to be a Skidmore graduate. Barbara Brownell is still glowing from Reunion. She continues to enjoy good health, wonderful friends, a loving part- ner, and a great family.

Ellen Rubinson Zamore wants to know

how many of you still see your Skidmore “little sisters.” The week before Reunion she had the pleasure of attending the wed-

ding of Cherry Talbott Morjikian ’60, a

close friend since their days at Skidmore. Ellen says, “It was wonderful seeing her children and grandchildren, and the new groom is a wonderful man.”

Anne-Marie Philippe DeTourbet, who

traveled from her home in Paris for Re - union, also visited NYC when they were in the States. She and husband Francis were planning a family gathering for their 50th wedding anniversary in May.

Evy Zoda Shippee wrote from Naples,

FL, that she and husband Bob had a mini-

reunion dinner with Jean Gracie Lifland

and John, and Sue Gosch Martineau and Bob. The Liflands own a home in Naples (the Shippees rent theirs), and the Martin - eaus were in town for a week’s vacation. They all had a wonderful time together. Evy returned to New Jersey in April. A mini-reunion took place in NYC when

Evie Schawbel Rosenkrantz came from

Massachusetts to play nannie for three of her grandchildren while her daughter was in England. Evie and I were joined at Kings Carriage House (a charming restau- rant owned by Skidmore alum Liz King

Farrell ’81) by Edy Oberfeld Levitt (Evie’s freshman roommate) and Sandy Bend -

feldt. We all sat without eyeglasses, hair perfectly colored, in a dimly lit room and agreed we looked fabulous for our age and at least 10 years younger! Evie’s husband (a

40 SCOPE SPRING 2010

Union grad) is a recently retired dentist, and Evie is a part-time real estate agent, golfer, grandma, etc. Edy, who lost hus- band David over a year ago, is in the city a lot from her suburban home. She now has an apartment, and I sometimes join her at the theater. She and Sandy are in the same exercise class, and Sandy is hap- pily doing her cabaret.

Norman and I had a lot of fun at a movie

and dinner with Joan Cangelosi Kicska

and her guy friend Charlie, whom I intro- duced her to.

Bev Sanders Payne and I have talked about the scholarship dinner to take place in Saratoga Springs in April. Our class is helping support four Skidmore students, and at the dinner our class officers who are able to attend always meet and greet them. We all should feel so proud to help these lovely young people.

It’s been 50 years since graduation,

and I hope you all will come to Reunion, to cel- ebrate where and who we are now as we continue to look forward.

Joyce Jacobs Grand hosted Peggy Campbell Boeker, Joy Holtzman Adler, and Debbie Miller

Wager last July 4th. Joyce was hopeful that she could encourage them all to attend Reunion.

Derry Knight Coe is thrilled to

hear that Skidmore is reinstating a nursing program through NYU.

Cookie Rapoport Thier and Ken stayed

home in Boulder, CO, for the holidays for the first time in seven years. They were in Hungary and France on house exchanges in September, which took the place of their usual winter sojourns to the south- ern hemisphere.

Sandy Weisman Sheppard’s grand-

daughter Mikayla is in her first year of pre- med; she wants to be a pediatric oncolo- gist. Sandy says Mikayla is a most giving, caring, and unselfish person. Sandy spent the winter in Florida, where she has lots of support from friends. She loves to travel and wonders if anyone is interested in vis- iting China and/or going on a safari; con- tact her at j.sheppard@comcast.net. Fran Malino welcomed her third grand- child, Jerron, in 2008. The two others, Olivia and Aidan, are in Beijing for the next couple of years while their father establishes a branch of his law firm and their mother, a neuropsychologist, lectures and teaches. Jerron and his parents are in Moscow until the fall; his father is with the US State Department. Fran hopes to visit both Moscow and Beijing. In the meantime, she continues to teach at Welles ley College, do some research and writing, and, of course, Skype! When visiting her sister in Osterville,

MA, Jan Curren Moffitt gets together with Liz Crombie Martin. Linda Speer Diez enjoyed autumn in

New York after a great trip to Paris, Venice, and Rome.

Hadley Sillick Robertson highly recom-

mends visiting artist Toni Wolcott’s Web site (toniwolcottstudio.com) to see her fine work.

Jean Braddon Lewellyn and Bonnie

Brooks, putting together a class career dis- cussion to convene Saturday morning of Reunion weekend, have been looking for four classmates to talk for about 10 min- utes about how they have redefined their lives during retirement, why they contin- ue working, or what new career paths they are considering. In addition, a group of six to eight classmates will facilitate small dis- cussion groups with the topic “Where you are today.” If interested, please contact Jean at j2lewellyn@verizon.net or Bonnie at marybonnie@gmail.com.

Nancy Stevenson and husband Neil Clark, in Arlington, MA, enjoy golfing, gardening, and being involved with hos - telling groups. They’ve also sung with the New World Chorale, in a production of the Music Man, and in a performance of the Brahms Requiem.

Most have us have turned 70 and now look forward to our next rite of passage— our 50th reunion. This past winter, I gave notice that I will retire, for the fourth time! I’ve been doing human-resource consulting on a Lockheed Martin contract with the Transportation Security Adminis - tration, specifically drafting vacancy an - nouncements for posting on Monster.com. I’ve learned a lot, but it requires too much time away from taking my granddaughter to dance classes and ice skating, doing quilting and Early American decorative art, spending summers in Michigan, serv- ing as trustee for the Historical Society for Early American Decoration, and other vol- unteer activities.
