Phyllis Browne Anderson ’41 of Mill -

brook, NY, died November 13. A home- economics major, she taught in that field before her marriage. She was an ac - complished musician and piano teacher. She is survived by three daughters, a son, 10 grandchildren, and two sisters, includ-

ing Judith Browne Hayden ’48.

Cynthia Taft Lathrop ’42 of Peter bor - ough, NH, died December 20. A biology major, she taught fourth grade at the Wilkins School in Amherst, NH, for 20 years and served as president of the PTA, school board member, and Girl Scout leader. A competitive skier, she earned championship trophies in the United States and Europe in her youth, and she continued ski racing in the masters circuit on the East and West Coasts and winning national championships. She also climbed all 48 of New Hampshire’s high peaks and played tennis well into her 70s. For Skid - more she served as class secretary, class president, reunion chair, and VP of the alumni board. She is survived by husband Francis, two sons, two daughters, a broth- er, and a sister.

Virginia Fowler Gurney ’42 of Pitts -

boro, NC, died November 6. A home-ec major, she served Skidmore as a reunion volunteer. She is survived by two sons; husband Robert predeceased her.

Jean Kingsley Livingston ’43 of Ve -

rona, PA, died October 11. A theater ma - jor, she was active with the local PTA and Girl Scouts. She served as president of the Pittsburgh Skidmore Club. She is survived by three daughters, a son, five grandchil- dren, and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, William, predeceased her.

Mary Munger Derby ’43 of Byron, NY,

died August 15 of cancer. A business major, she worked as a bookkeeper. She served her community as a literacy tutor and a patient advocate at local hospitals. Predeceased by husband Joseph, she is survived by three sons and two daughters, four grandchildren, two great-grandchil- dren, and a brother.

Ruth Hopwood Moran ’43 of Hunting -

ton, NY, died March 30, 2009. An English major, she earned a degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing and a master’s in ger - on tology and administration from the New School for Social Research. She was the nursing director and administrator for a skilled-nursing facility. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, and several grandchildren.

Barbara Green Ponder ’43 of Clear -

water, FL, died January 14, 2006. She was a business major. She served in leadership roles for the local Cancer Fund, Red Cross,

and Heart Fund. She is survived by hus- band Wallace, two daughters, and a son.

Cleora Crego Griggs ’43 of Fairfield, CT,

died March 11, 2002. An English ma jor, she worked as a reporter and advertising copywriter for General Electric. She was board secretary for the Junior League of Bridgeport and a Red Cross volunteer. She served Skidmore as president of the Bridge - port club. She leaves a daughter, two sons, 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchil- dren; husband Charles predeceased her.

Frances Perkins Kelsey ’44 of High -

lands Ranch, CO, died December 27, 2007. A phys-ed major, she earned a cer- tificate in reading education from West - field State College. She was a reading spe- cialist at the Kolbourne School in Great Barrington, MA. Active in the Girl Scouts and other community organizations, she enjoyed skiing, fishing, riding, and danc- ing. As a young teacher, she taught ball- room dancing to high school students. She leaves two daughters and a son, two sisters, six grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren; husband Donald prede- ceased her.

Jean Keller Carros ’45 of Clinton, CT,

died February 13. A biology major, she was a phlebotomist in NYC. She enjoyed international traveling with husband Robert, who predeceased her. She is sur- vived by a sister-in-law, two nieces, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Carolyn Hudson Shearer ’45 of Spring -

field, MA, died December 31. A home-ec major specializing in institutional man- agement, she was a dietician for schools and hospitals. She retired as the associate director of food service for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association. She served Skidmore as a reunion gift-plan- ning chair. She is survived by a brother, a cousin, and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara Grinnell Hayes ’45 of Rose -

ville, CA, died December 2. She was a nursing major. She is survived by a son; husband Bernard predeceased her.

Jeanne Lauritzen Briggs ’45 of Cutler

Bay, FL, died August 24. An English- Spanish major, she retired after many years as a teacher at Gulliver Academy in Coral Gables. She is survived by two sons, three grandsons, and a great-grandchild.

Margaret Curle Hill ’45 of Blooming -

ton, IL, died August 15. She completed her degree in economics at Indiana Uni - versity. She was a professional horse breeder. Active in the local Republican Party, she was a fundraiser for the Bloom - ington Boy’s Club. She served Skidmore as a reunion volunteer. She is survived by

two sons, three grandchildren, and a sis- ter. Her husbands, Nat and then Damon, predeceased her.

Betty Burger Witt ’45 of Sebastian, FL,

died July 20. She was a home-ec major. Predeceased by husband Leonard, she is survived by a son and daughter.

Claire LaRose Leverault ’45 of Los

Altos, CA, died June 18, 2008. A business major, she was a longtime fifth-grade public school teacher. In retirement she taught water aerobics and was Queen Mother of the local Red Hat Society. She was an avid sailor and photographer. She served Skidmore as a reunion volunteer. She is survived by two sons and several grandchildren. Her husband, Maurice, predeceased her. Eleanor Brown ’45 of Newark, NY, died January 16, 2007. A phys-ed major, she did graduate study at University of Ro - ches ter, Ithaca College, and Cornell Uni - versity and enjoyed a 34-year career as a phys-ed educator. She is survived by sister

eral nieces and nephews. Helen Albers Moodie ’46 of Blue Moun - tain Lake, NY, died January 18. A phys-ed major, she taught in that field before her marriage. She later forged a long career in resource development for organizations including the Adirondack Center for the Arts and Lutheran Social Services in the United States and abroad. She was a for- mer executive director of Skidmore’s alum- ni association. She leaves a son and two

daughters, including Carrie Moodie ’74;

husband Alan predeceased her.

Jean MacKenzie Wattles ’46 of East

Aurora, NY, died October 11. She was a Spanish major. She leaves husband Jay, four daughters, a sister, nine grandchil- dren, and six great-grandchildren.

Anne Caldow Bishop ’47 of Waterford,

NY, died March 5 of cancer. A theater major, she was an actress and director at the Operetta Club in Glens Falls prior to earning teaching certification in art and reading. She taught in the Hudson Falls School District for 20 years. She is sur- vived by two daughters, a son, and five grandsons. Her husband, Daniel, prede- ceased her.

Regina DiPurro Colantuaono ’48 of

Mashpee, MA, died January 26. A home- economics major, she was a former spe- cial-needs volunteer with the Sudbury school system and a baker. She was active in her local women’s and garden clubs. She leaves husband Bob, five daughters, two sons, and eight grandchildren.
