NEWS DESK The Production Index rose to 60.3% from 56% in Novem-


ber. Ten industries reported output increases. They included petroleum and coal products, miscellaneous manufactur- ing, machinery and fabricated metal products. Six industries


reported no change. Only two industries reported a decline in production, including transportation equipment. The Employment Index reached 53.1%, an improvement


from 52.3% in November. The December result marked the third consecutive month above the 50% mark for the index. Nine industries reported job gains, including textiles, miscellaneous manu- facturing, primary metals and machin- ery. Six industries reported decreases in employment, including apparel, fabricated metal products and trans- portation equipment.
