Thunderstorms dropped several inches of water on the grass field at Kennesaw State in the Atlanta suburbs on May 1, forcing the final seven minutes of the ACC men’s title game to be played on an adjacent turf field. With TV equipment unable to make the move, fans took to social media to follow the rest of Syracuse’s 14-8 win over Duke. ESPN analyst and LM contributor Paul Carcaterra commentated via Periscope.
SMALL BALL
On the subject of alternative ways to play (“Small Ball,” February 2016), in the summer between my junior and senior year in college I was in a league where each team had a goalie, two defensemen, three
midfielders and two attackmen. The goals were 50 yards apart. It was quick and exciting. The format might be especially well suited for younger players or where space is limited.

It’s happening on all levels. My high school in New Jersey was the best program for 20-plus years. ‘70s, ‘80s, and very early ‘90s. Since the start of the growth, it’s continued to go downhill. (“ACC Takes Step Back with Increased Parity,”
