The NCAA, which said it considered several locations, also named Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium and Delaware Stadium as quarterfi nal sites for 2017. Hofstra will again host a pair of quarterfi nals in 2018, along with Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. The 2008 Division I men’s title game at Gillette Stadium was a high-water mark for the event, attracting 48,970 fans. In 2012, when Loyola won its fi rst national title against Maryland in Foxborough, 30,816 attended, part of a total championship weekend attendance decline since 2007 in Baltimore. “The venue is one of the best in the nation and will provide our student-athletes with a memorable experience. Lacrosse in the New England area continues to explode, and we are excited to bring our event to the area to showcase what NCAA lacrosse is all about,” said Fairfi eld athletic director Eugene Doris, chair of the Division I men’s lacrosse committee. “It was a very diffi cult decision for the committee; there were a number of quality facilities and great communities under consideration.” WakeMed Stadium in Cary, N.C., and Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, N.Y., will host the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse championships, which was announced earlier this year.

Princeton fi red men’s lacrosse coach Chris Bates in the midst of his seventh season April 6 after a review of an incident that occurred just days earlier in a game against Brown. Video from the game showed Bates putting his right elbow into an opposing Bears player as he ran into the substitution box. In the moments before the incident, the player collided with another on Princeton and fell down in front of the Tigers' bench.

Princeton originally placed Bates on administrative leave pending review, and then decided to part ways.

He had a 53-42 record with the

Tigers and led them to the 2010 and 2012 NCAA tournaments.
