Keepers of the Game
“Keepers of the Game,” a documentary about the Salmon River (N.Y.) girls’ lacrosse team, debuted at the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival in mid-April and was broadcasted days later to a national audience on ABC. The film highlights the challenges faced by Salmon River, which is composed of Native American players from the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory in the Mohawk nation. Prior to the start of 2015, the team’s funding is cut and they are forced to raise money while battling the traditional notion that lacrosse is a medicine game to be played only by men and boys.

On Monday, May 2, the week before Selection Sunday, UMBC announced that Don Zimmerman would retire from his coaching position after 23 seasons, but remain in a role with the university, and Jacksonville said it would not renew coach Guy Van Arsdale’s contract.
