5. GREG GURENLIAN
TEAM/POSITION: New York Lizards, FO
AGE: 32
HOMETOWN: Springfield, Pa.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-1, 225 COLLEGE: Penn State
Going against Gurenlian at the X is like challenging Alex Trebek in “Jeopardy.” His faceoff win percentage (73.3) is head and shoulders above the rest of those in MLL.
4. TOM SCHREIBER
TEAM/POSITION: Ohio Machine, M
AGE: 24
HOMETOWN: East Meadow, N.Y.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-0, 190
COLLEGE: Princeton The only thing
keeping Schreiber from gracing every lacrosse commercial and every magazine is his humble personality. He looks and acts like the guy you want to take your daughter to prom. In his second year, Schreiber quietly tied for the league lead in assists (30) and also was top-10 in goals (29), inconspicuously posting the first 60-point season for a midfielder since Paul Rabil in 2012.
3. ROB PANNELL
TEAM/POSITION: New York Lizards, A
AGE: 26
HOMETOWN: Smithtown, N.Y.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-10, 195 COLLEGE: Cornell
This summer, Pannell joined Casey Powell (’02, ’03, ’14) and Ryan Powell (’01) as the third player in MLL history to record a 30-goal, 30-assist season. He also chipped in a league-leading 11 second assists. The most memorable moment of Pannell’s 2015 season was in the postseason, though. Syracuse alumni John Galloway, John Lade and Joel White stole the 2009 NCAA championship from him and the Cornell Big Red. Six years later, Pannell carved up those same defenders — now in Rattlers uniforms — for four goals and an assist on his way to his first-ever collegiate or pro title.
2. JORDAN WOLF
TEAM/POSITION: Rochester Rattlers, A
AGE: 24
HOMETOWN: Wynnewood, Pa.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-9, 170
COLLEGE: Duke Wolf has a
suddenness to his movements that is unmatched by anyone since Chazz Woodson or Mikey Powell. “He goes 100 percent all the time,” Rochester defenseman John Lade said. “His speed stands out, but he is one of the most well- rounded players I’ve ever played with. “Defenses need a separate strategy to cover him,” Rattlers defenseman Mike Manley said. “You need to have a slide ready.”
1. PAUL RABIL
TEAM/POSITION: New York Lizards, M
AGE: 30 HOMETOWN: Gaithersburg, Md.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-3, 220 COLLEGE: Johns Hopkins
How do you defend Rabil? Do you deny the sweep with his 111-mph right-hand or do you take away his left-handed shot down the alley? As crazy as it sounds, that’s a legitimate question coaches discuss during preparation weeks — and with solid reason. Although he scored roughly the same number of goals with each hand, Rabil was much more efficient with his left (38.2 percent) than with his right (25.0 percent). Even on an injured foot, Rabil’s footwork and technique is so polished that slides are automatic.
