Time is Running Out...

LASTCHANCEFor TAX CREDITS Going geothermal has never been more affordable

H

eating season is here, and many co-op members spend too much money heating

their homes. Propane prices always go up during the winter, too.

If you have an old heating and air conditioning system or you have unusually high energy bills, now is the time to replace it. With Kiamichi Electric Cooperative (KEC) rebates, a loop finance program and a federal tax credit available for geothermal heat pumps that expires on December 31, this is your best chance to install a high efficiency geothermal heat pump for thousands of dollars less.

If your system is 12- 15 years old or older, or you have unusually high bills – you’re a good candidate for geothermal. After tax credits, loop program and co-op rebates, geothermal heat pump systems cost about the same or less than a conventional unit, plus going "geo" could save you 30-50 percent on your utility bills.

A geothermal heat pump is a lot like the heat pumps that many of us have at our homes now, but they are ground- source instead of air-source. They can be used on any size home and can replace any type of unit. It works by pairing the heating and cooling system with a series of ground loops that extend down

into the earth. The earth's nice, stable temperature provides a way to keep your home comfortable throughout the year.

Geothermal heat pumps are the most cost effective, energy efficient way to heat and cool a home. You can find more information about how geothermal works at www. kiamichielectric.org.
