This was my first Tauck trip. It was outstanding from start to finish. Excellent itinerary, great food, enjoyable activities. Swiss Emerald is a beautiful ship. From the Captain to the deck crew, everyone is dedicated to providing a top flight experience. Our guides were extraordinary, consistently going the extra mile. – Tauck Traveler Review,

9. TOURNON-SUR-RHÔNE & VALENCE A drive takes you up to a hillside vantage point to take in the compelling views of the tile-roofed town of Tournon-sur-Rhône and its surroundings from above. They include the ancient Grand Pont, the remains of a 10th-century castle, Côtes du Rhône vineyards and river vistas. Linked by a pedestrian bridge across the Rhône named La Passerelle Seguin, after the engineer who designed the first suspension bridges over the river, you’ll find the small town of Tain-l’Hermitage. Surrounded by lush vineyards that grow along the river’s banks, the town is known for its Côtes du Rhône wines, fruits and chocolates. Up next is the town of Valence, with a historic reputation as a seat of learning and a role today as a market hub for fresh foods from the Rhône Valley – making it a popular home base for some of France’s finest culinary artists. Here at a gourmet cooking school, you’ll enjoy a presentation that features fresh ingredients prepared in a light, inventive style. Afterward you’ll be treated to a wine and cheese tasting to experience some of the region’s finest home-grown products. But do save an appetite for this evening, when the captain’s farewell reception and the dinner that follows celebrate a fantastic French week as your riverboat begins its return to the city of Lyon.
