WHAT TO EXPECT
...WHEN THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENS ON EUROPE’S RIVERS Unexpected experiences are part of the magic of travel. We
don’t often talk about the challenges that can arise during travel because seamlessly managing all the details for you – without missing a beat – is business as usual here at Tauck. And while we pride ourselves on making your Tauck river cruise memorable and worry-free in every way, there are some things that are beyond our control. Like the whims of Mother Nature, local political situations or workers’ strikes, to name a few.
While the whims of the “river gods” may impact our European cruises, they can’t take all the fun out of our itineraries once we are underway. Tauck prepares for the unexpected – see how by watching our video at

Despite the difficulties with the river flooding on the Danube, your entire staff performed the necessary tasks to take care of us. They did a phenomenal job in a very difficult situation and conducted themselves with extreme professionalism. Please know that as a result of our experience, we have become Tauck-only clients; we would never entertain the thought of traveling with any other tour company. Thank you again for your professionalism and integrity.

Your safety is always our first priority, followed by our goal of delivering the cultural experiences you looked forward to when you booked your river cruise. Our Global Response Team continually monitors river conditions as well as any global situations which may impact our guests. So while adverse events may necessitate a re-choreographed itinerary with alternate transportation, sightseeing excursions and hotel accommodations – at no additional cost to you – your flexibility and spirit of adventure will be most appreciated and can turn temporary disappointment into fond memories that last long after you return home. Here are some of the unpredictable scenarios that may impact your river cruise:
• Too much or too little rain can directly impact the water levels on Europe’s rivers, making navigation difficult or impossible... in which case, local authorities may stop river traffic.
• High waters and flooding might result in our riverboats not being able to safely sail under centuries-old bridges that line the rivers, and some docks may be closed.
• Low water caused by hot weather, droughts and scant precipitation can threaten our ability to cruise from place to place without getting stuck. Our riverboats need 5 - 6 feet of water to operate safely.
• Trouble navigating river locks, whether from mechanical or engineering difficulties or workers’ strikes, may require us to alter itineraries.
