We put in oak flooring throughout most of the first floor, limestone flags on most of the ground floor, a new oak staircase, new fireplaces in the public rooms and returned the kitchen to its original position. We put in new bathrooms, the new kitchen, and more significantly installed underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, which obviously required an upgraded hot water system and some rewiring.”
To reinstate the kitchen to its former position, an interior wall was removed, incorporating a separate dining room into the kitchen. The castle is set over three floors, with the 31-foot-long kitchen, a siting room, entrance hall, utility and WC on the ground floor, a 32-foot-long drawing room,
master bedroom and ensuite, and an additional bedroom on the first floor, with a stone spiral staircase leading to a further three bedrooms, an ensuite and family bathroom on the second floor. There are also two atic spaces.
When carrying out the work, the couple uncovered the original fireplace in the drawing room. “We discovered the fireplace behind a firebox that had been installed in the 1970s,” says Louise. “We restored it, installed a wood burner and fited a new limestone
