The Analysis Forums

Painting a thousand words

Video technology is being used to review what members think of the forums experience

Laurie Beagle Managing director, Forums International lauriebeagle@forumsinternational.co.uk

We all get too many e-mails and lots to read. So, at Forums International, we are starting to take a different approach and are using video. We want you to hear about the benefits of being a forum member, and who better to tell you their experiences but the members and our corporate partners?

Testimonials We are filming testimonials at all the forums and these are being loaded onto our website and onto the Forums International channel on YouTube. Please have a look.

Teamwork To continue the Top Five Opportunities & Challenges for the New Year. We have now covered ‘the relationship

between Credit and Sales’ and ‘customers’. The next issue to consider is ‘the Credit Team’. We are covering many subjects in this category; from team building to negativity in teams, to leading teams through change, and how to manage a team. In recent sessions, some of the key

discussions have been around how to motivate the team when work demands have increased. One suggestion was to change the team around so that you are using all the skills available. A second was, when developing the team, to give staff the bigger

picture regarding their tasks; arrange for them to sit with different departments and encourage them to understand your products.

Incentives There were also many views on incentives. Some agreed with them and others said that they simply do not work. What was agreed was that we should look to make it a team or group incentive, then everybody pulls together. There were many types of incentives suggested, from days off

to spot incentives and prizes. The one I did like was where the top collector got to park their car in the director’s space for a week. Recently, we were introduced to Paul Avins who runs a programme called Talent Dynamics. As part of the programme, everybody

is profiled. The outcome is that you are designated as having a profile of either a Mechanic, Creator, Star, Lord, Supporter, Accumulator, Trader, or Deal Maker; or a combination of several of these. My own Primary Profile is Accumulator,

whereas my Secondary Profiles are Trader and Lord. Mr Avins is running a session at the next

CPF meeting on the 11 April in Bracknell. The title is ‘Team Dynamics Secrets’. If you would like to attend, please e-mail cpf@forumsinternational.co.uk.

Delivering quality Earlier in the year we published a survey to our members with the express view of understanding if we were delivering quality and benefits, and what they wanted at the meetings. Our mission is that everybody, who attends a forum meeting, takes at least one thing away that will enhance their knowledge and, hopefully, their job. I would like to share the results with you: l 100% of members are satisfied with our events. l 95% of members would be happy to recommend Forums International to

their own colleagues and contacts. l 84% of members had the opportunity to shape the agenda at meetings. l 65% of members find being part of a community a benefit of Forums International membership. l 62% of members find regular meetings of benefit. l 35% of members have been a member for over five years. In summary, we were very pleased with the results and we believe

we have a good foundation to build on. We have just published ‘7 Ways our Forums can Benefit Your

Business’. To get a copy of this report, please follow the link from forumsinternational.co.uk/7-ways-forums-can-benefit-business/. The Forums International Golf & Archery Tournament is being

held on 18 May in Stratford-upon-Avon. Places are going fast, so if you would like to attend, please let us know soon. CCR
