New handler partnership pays off via CH Middleton Ltd and TEREX partnership

Leading privately owned company CH Middleton Ltd is working with local authorities and hundreds of businesses and tradesmen to deliver a prompt and professional waste management service.

Middletons – as they are known in and around South Yorkshire – have operated for over 70 years, becoming CH Middleton Ltd in 1959. Their services have evolved to meet economic and customer demands, with their most recent change being a focus on recycling of waste streams and offering customers “Zero Waste to Landfill” solutions. Dealing with virtually all aspects of waste

management, disposal and recycling – including difficult, confidential and hazardous waste – they are capable of delivering individual tailored waste services. Director Guy Middleton said: “In the 1980s

we expanded our recycling and waste management services beyond Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham, to adapt to the needs of our customers. We answered the call for a high class ‘on demand’ waste service, which was flexible and adapted to changes in legislation and waste handling practices. “Our aim is to meet all of our customers’

waste needs in a friendly, professional manner, and deliver a full audit trail. Our environmental performance and safety record speak for themselves, as do our customer references and reputation.” Operating from a purpose built, fully

licensed waste transfer station at Doncaster, they have drastically reduced the amount of waste they send to landfill sites – minimising their carbon footprint and that of customers.

To assist with handling waste on site, the

company has purchased a TEREX TWH220 waste handler from Barnsley and Redditch based dealer Warwick Ward (Machinery) Ltd. The decision for a new handler was an

important one for Guy, as the JCB handler he was looking to replace did the lion’s share of the work in the yard. When Robert Hughes from Warwick Ward originally spoke to Guy he had a list of important requirements of the machine, including strong stability and performance, fuel economy, driver comfort, after sales and finally reliability. Guy said: ‘’One of the main reasons for going ahead with the TEREX was the new tier

4 engines, which give smooth power accompanied with excellent fuel economy and low emissions. This is in keeping with our profile as being as green as possible.” He added: “Due to the hours the machine

will be working, our operators were involved heavily in the decision making process, as they will be sitting in the seat every day. “They found the Terex the most

comfortable, controllable and stable machine by a large margin, meaning that even on a long shift, fatigue would be kept to a minimum.”

Wiltshire Council vehicles are brought back to life to save money

Two refuse vehicles from Wiltshire Council’s waste and recycling fleet have been given a major overhaul by Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS) to increase their operational life for an extended contract.

The 58 and 59 registration vehicles were both Dennis Eagle 26 tonne refuse trucks with Terberg bin lifts, and due to be replaced. Andrew Saxton, Fleet Manager, Wiltshire Council said: “The timeline of a contract

changed and we considered hiring new vehicles. “It worked out much better value to have

the vehicles overhauled, rather than hiring vehicles. In fact it has cost us a fraction of what we would have spent on rental charges.” The vehicle bodies and bin lifts required

extensive repair work, including a major packer overhaul and repairing the ejector panels. After completing a full inspection of the vehicles, RVS commenced an extensive

programme to bring the vehicles back to manufacturer’s standards. This included replacing all pins, bushes

and bearings, checking or replacing control units & switches, and cosmetic repairs. One vehicle was repainted due to the extend of the welding work required. Spencer Law, Managing Director, RVS

said: “We are delighted Wiltshire Council is pleased with the vehicles. Over the years we have developed, honed and standardised our remanufacturing procedures.”
