2017: THE EXPERTS’ VIEWS

Another year of shocks or a period of stability?

2017

It’s the time of the year when most of us look forward to the New Year with a mixture of hope and expectation. 2016 was undoubtedly a historic and somewhat seismic year, with a PM toppled, BREXIT, a certain Donald Trump, plus a stack of other shocks.

So we asked some leading industry figures to peer into a crystal ball, and tell us about their plans and hopes for next year. What they said makes fascinating reading, and we are certainly looking forward to see if their predictions come true in 2017. Will it be another stormy year for the industry, or will the waters

be calmer and the road to prosperity and success a bit easier? What are the potential pitfalls ahead, and who will be smiling in a year while others may have found the going tough? Read on…

Richard Skan, Group MD at Boughton Enginerring,

is looking forward to the New Year Whilst 2016 may go down as a year of disruptive political events such as Brexit, currency fluctuations and economic uncertainty – with more to come in 2017 – some companies remained focused on what they do best and successfully maintained growth and increased market share.

“2016 was important for us, because it marked the fifth anniversary of our family’s acquisition of the Boughton business. “We have been able

to support strong demand from the marketplace, being particularly successful with the large fleet operators and hire companies – as well as the smaller

companies that are the backbone of the industry. “Currently, we have the company’s largest

developing over the next few years. “Some forecasts suggest the waste industry is

set to grow at a rate of 9.1% through to the end of the decade – higher than many other industrial sectors. Some of that growth will come through government recycling and environmental initiatives, all of which underpin the demand for increasingly sophisticated management, separation and treatment of waste streams and their transport in specialist vehicles.” Boughton will return the McNeilus Front

End Loader to the UK market during the first half of next year, and its’ order pipeline already includes initial units. Also, the company will continue to invest in both its’ West Midlands and Devon facilities and expects to create new skilled jobs to support continued expansion.
