My drive and enjoyment comes from focussing on breeding the best cows


as a contiguous cull with the exception of 40 heifers that were grazing in an isolated fi eld. “After much persuasion in an effort to preserve some of the breeding lines the heifers were saved. They were carefully monitored, but since they were the only cattle left we managed to save them. They formed the nucleus of the herd for us to start again, however, I didn’t plan to go back into pedigree breeding as seriously as I had been. I restocked with Colin and Nick Dolby’s Brimmoor herd which was a solid herd of cows with similar breeding to our herd. “I soon realised that breeding was ‘my thing’ and focussing on breeding the best cows was where I got my drive and enjoyment from. Many of good families have come to the fore since restocking with some cows consistently performing and breeding better than others. All the families are a similar type and I am of the opinion that fi rst and foremost cows
