GETTING TO KNOW OUR STAFF... ZUZANA MELLENOVA

How long have you worked for CIS and what positions have you held within the company?

I started working in the lab testing milk samples for CIS in August 2006, when testing was outsourced to Eclipse scientific. Initially my first role was a lab assistant, I then progressed to an analyst position to a section head and finally I became a lab manager in January 2013. During the time working in the lab I have gained a lot of experience with the instruments and also gained plenty of knowledge about the industry and lab environment. I believe this experience is an essential asset to my current job role.

What’s your job title and what does your role involve?

My title is lab manager and I am responsible for making sure staff are happy and working productively while ensuring all accreditation criteria for IEC ISO 17025:2005 are being met at all times and at the same time running the lab cost effectively.

What’s the most challenging part of your role?

I would say the most challenging part of my job is keeping our hard-working staff motivated. There are times when the workload is challenging, but we all stick together and everybody lends a helping hand to ensure turnaround time is kept to minimum.

What’s the most exciting part of your role?

Being in daily contact with our processing and IT departments which enables us to cooperate, this opens an opportunity for continuous improvement of the service we offer to our customers. There is something satisfying about being able to contribute to the setting of the operation of the lab since the opening in September 2012. Being internationally recognised as one of the most up-to-date and fast developing labs in the industry is exciting and it makes me proud to be part of the organisation that has achieved this status through hard work.

How well do you get on with your boss?

I feel that all members of our management team here at Speir House work well together, each of us bringing knowledge and experience from different backgrounds and also different approaches to problem solving, management and ideas for improvement. In my opinion this is fundamental for successful business.

For compositional testing the system is fully automated using state of the art equipment to ensure each sample is processed uniformly to the highest standard
