ABRAKADAZZLE TOPS AT BLACK & WHITE T


he 29th edition of the Black and White sale attracted a large crowd of buyers from across the UK and Ireland on 2nd December. Despite the apocalyptic weather conditions with many roads and bridges closed due to flooding and high winds trade topped at 9000gns with an overall average of £3811.


For the second consecutive year a daughter of Val-Bisson Doorman topped the trade. Knowlesmere Doorman Abrakadazzle sold for 9000gns to Scot Forsyth, Baltier Farm, Newton Stewart. This big league show heifer is a daughter of Knowlesmere Goldwyn Abrakaboom VG87 2yr who placed first junior two year old at UK Dairy Day in September. This is the first heifer to sell from this cow family in Europe. The Erle cow family has produced many legendary animals over the years and still holds the breed record for a cow sold at public auction. The Haffey family from Northern Ireland sold five wonderful heifers with a top price of 8500gns for Glasson Atwood JF Erle which was purchased by John and Gordon Lyle, Nether Pratis Farm, Fife. The super stylish black heifer


was sired by Atwood and is a granddaughter of the record breaking Field of Dreams Formation Erle EX95.


Milking heifers averaged £4646 and topped at 8000gns for I-Cow Facebook Emilia consigned by Isaac and Luke Lancaster, Horton Grange Farm, Gisburn. Emilia is a daughter of Facebook with a massive UK and North American index. She has a PLI+£498 and a GTPI+2315 and sold with more than €4000 in embryo contracts. She was purchased by Elite Street Genetics, Ireland. Also selling for 8000gns was Eastford Armani


Tabitha Red consigned by Eastford Holsteins a syndicate of the Yates and Lawrie families. She was a daughter of Dilandy Debonair Tabitha Red EX92 which was last year’s supreme champion at the Royal Highland Show and Super Cow at Agriscot in 2012. The cow family traces back to Luck E in the USA. Averages: Four heifers in milk £4646.50, one Holstein in-calf heifer £2625, 42 Holstein heifer calves £3817.50, 12 embryos £444.50. he Dispersal sale of the entire Crosshillocks Herd of pedigree Holsteins, the property of C H and S L Davis of Gorstage Green Farm, Weaverham, Northwich, took place on 3rd December at Beeston Castle Auction. A really good crowd was in attendance with buyers present from Lancashire to West Wales and several counties in between as well as the locality. The top price of the day was 2750gns for the fresh heifer, Crosshillocks Ann 25th, a daughter of Bassingthorpe Drayman, three weeks calved and already giving 33kg daily. She was purchased by Leonora Whitfield for her Wem-based Alderbarrow Herd. Averages:104 cows and milking heifers (including 39 heifer calves at £331.69) £1118.44, 28 served heifers £737.25, 25 maiden heifers £582.96.
