Flying Theatres
parkworld-online.com By the time you read this,
Europa-Park's elaborate new flying theatre project may
have a name other than the working title Project V. One thing is for sure, however: the Mack family is not
holding back when it comes to attention to detail (as always). Check out the
official Project V website and you'll see why. In the meantime Europa-Park managing partner and MackMedia founder
Michael Mack tells us in his
own words why he's excited to be bringing “one of the most exciting attractions in the world” to Germany

Comprising two theatres with a total capacity for 140 Europa-Park guests at a time, Project V will be the largest flying theatre project in Europe. Passengers will glide through the air in chairlift-style gondola on an I-Ride system from Brogent Technologies. A maximum of 1,400 passengers per hour will be able to enjoy the experience, with footage projected onto a 21m wide/16m high domed screen in each theatre, with special effects adding to the experience. The audiovisual partner is the Austrian company Kraftwerk Living Technologies, which already worked on Europa-Park's successful Arthur dark ride project. The highest audio quality is guaranteed by a state-of-the-art surround sound system by IOSONO, allowing the park to customise the sound to each gondola.
ore than 235 years ago, my family declared its goal to provide people with unforgettable moments. Since then, our company motto has
been “the wide world is my field”. Today, Germany s largest theme park offers more than 100 attractions and international shows on a site measuring 95 hectares. Nevertheless, we are always in search of unique and innovative attractions. Project V will show our guests the overall theme of our
park from a complete new angle. It will take its passengers on a breathtaking journey across Europe. The captivating movie, a production by MackMedia, will mesmerise guests as they are carried to more than 10 European destinations. Special effects such as scent, wind and water intensify the flight and make it a truly magical experience. After the success of our 4D Magic Cinema and the
themed ride Arthur – In the Minimoys Kingdom, which is based on a movie and contains media content, the construction of a flying theatre was a logical next step for us. We believe that a flying theatre is one of the best attractions in the world. It is a new ride system for our visitors, one which is highly emotional and gives all ages a unique experience. We are absolutely convinced that Project V will be a
Europa-Park guest favourite in the coming years and provide us with sustainable growth. The attraction is located near the main entrance to the park, and our guests will notice it straight away when they arrive. Since the first days of thinking about a flying theatre, we decided we wanted to create a fully immersive experience including an extensive story and theming. We are not just adding a new attraction, we are creating a new world! Moreover the ride building is a beautiful extension of our German themed area. The queue line to the attraction will offer a perfectly co-ordinated pre-show as, step by step, we immerse visitors deeper into the unique and exiting world of the aviation pioneers Egbert and Kaspar Eulenstein. The Eulenstein brothers, both scientists, were fascinated by flying machines from an early age. Their lives were

Europe's largest flying theatre comes to Europa-Park
dominated by sketches, studies and experiments with the aim of taking flight themselves one day. In their laboratory no stone was left unturned to make their childhood dream become reality: to fly as free as a bird, at any time and wherever the wind carries them. With their success, they became early members of the Adventure Club of Europe. Project V will allow our visitors to be part of the technical achievements of these aviation pioneers. As audience members admire visuals from landscapes and cities across Europe special effects such as wind and water will create an intense atmosphere; providing for a very real feeling of flying. With Project V, we also want to introduce a second layer
of theming to Europa-Park. So far Europe was our connecting theme, but with the introduction of the Adventure Club of Europe (
adventure-club.de), we want to create an additional connection between various attractions in the park over the coming years. We are also developing an own application/game for Project V. The ride film was directed by Holger Tappe, who was also in charge for our successful 3D movies Castle Secret, The Time Carousel and our first full-length feature film Happy Family, which will be launched in cinemas across Europe on August 24. The 14 locations featured in Project V – including Venice, Castle Neuschwanstein, Strasbourg, Iceland and also Europa-Park itself – were chosen based on the popularity of these sights but also because of connections to the park, whether it be existing or future themed areas or also emotional links to our guests. Highly technological cameras, including two very rare Weapon 8K systems that are unique in Europe, were mounted on helicopters and drones to capture footage and, I have to say, they captured some really sensational footage of the highest quality. Opening day can't come soon enough!
